Social Media Intern

Position: Social Media Intern

Time commitment: Average of 5 hours per week, May 4 through September 4, 2026 (approx. 18 weeks for a total of 90 hours)

Reports to: Chief Development & Communications Officer

Compensation: $1500 Stipend

Benefits Package: None

The Social Media Intern will be a key member of the development team, with a concentration in creating and sharing compelling, timely messages about InMotion events, activities, and community impact. A chief focus will be on promoting InMotion’s annual PALS In Motion fundraising event scheduled for August 30, 2026. Reporting to the Chief Development & Communications Officer (CDCO), the Social Media Intern will work closely with staff to meet the organization’s communications goals of raising awareness of activities and events, communicating impact, and increasing program awareness and participation that can lead to fundraising success.

Essential Functions:

· Develop and curate compelling content promoting events, programs and organizational updates for InMotion’s social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)

· Support websites and email campaigns leveraging social media content.

· Capture content at InMotion activities by taking photos, short videos, and posting real-time or recap content. Add content to photo and video library for future use

· Support storytelling by highlighting participant experiences, volunteers, and program outcomes

· Monitor social media channels for engagement and work with supervisor to respond to comments or messages

· Track and prepare simple reports on basic performance metrics (likes, shares, comments, reach, etc.) to identify trends and support recommendations

· Ensure content aligns with the organization’s mission, voice, and brand guidelines

· Research social media trends and creative ideas relevant to nonprofit events and fundraising for participation in ideation sessions.

· Develop and present a final report to include a summation, metrics and recommendations for the future

· Attendance at Marketing Committee meetings when possible

Qualifications

· Current college student or recent graduate in digital marketing, communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or related fields

· Familiarity with social media platforms, trends, and best practices to maximize reach and engagement

· Strong writing and overall communication skills with attention to tone, clarity, and accuracy

· Organized, reliable, and able to meet deadlines

· Basic design skills using tools such as Canva or similar platforms a plus

· Interest or experience in nonprofit work, community engagement, or social impact a plus

Learning Opportunities

· Hands-on experience in nonprofit marketing and communications

· Exposure to event promotion, program storytelling, and audience engagement

· Mentorship from professional staff and InMotion Board members with marketing and communications experience.

· Portfolio-ready work samples and professional references upon successful completion
