Social Media Specialist (Part-Time) – Millersville Public Library

Job Overview
Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Social Media Specialist serves as a liaison between the Millersville Public Library and the community. This position works to enhance, coordinate, and maintain the day-to-day marketing and social media needs of the library, promoting programs, services, and events to increase community engagement and awareness.

The position also supports general library operations by assisting patrons and staff as needed, including occasional duties in the circulation area. Responsibilities include creating and managing social media content, promoting library initiatives, assisting with outreach and public relations activities, and helping ensure smooth daily library operations. This position is scheduled for 12 hours per week with specific hours assigned by the Library Director.

Duties

  • Create and manage the library’s social media accounts to promote programs, services, and events.
  • Develop engaging digital content including text, images, and video.
  • Monitor social media platforms, respond to comments and inquiries, and maintain a positive online presence.
  • Track social media engagement and maintain basic analytics, familiarity with Meta Business Suite and feedback records.
  • Create content and assist in promoting library events and activities.
  • Assist with outreach and marketing efforts to increase community awareness of library services.
  • Assist with special projects, public relations activities, and other marketing initiatives.
  • Occasionally assist at the circulation desk to support library operations and patron services.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or GED.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in commonly used computer programs, including Microsoft Office and Canva.
  • Customer Service: Strong customer service skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and people in a polite and professional manner.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively using speaking, hearing, vision, and writing skills.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Interact effectively with library patrons, local and regional officials, co-workers, community organizations, and the public.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality and respect individual privacy and rights in dealing with customer and/or employee records and personal information.
  • Policy Adherence: Adhere to and enforce all library and county policies, procedures, and restrictions.
  • Professionalism: Present self as a positive, unbiased, and professional role model, maintaining a pleasant attitude and refraining from using profanity.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to physically perform the essential functions of the job, including lifting and carrying materials, and standing or sitting for extended periods.

Other Desired Skills/ Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • Previous experience managing social media accounts for an organization, business, or nonprofit.
  • Experience creating digital marketing materials, photography, or basic video content.
  • Previous experience working in a library, nonprofit, or customer service environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using speaking, hearing, vision, and writing skills
  • Knowledge of standard library procedures, practices, and methods
  • Familiarity with library management software

Pay: $13.35 per hour

Expected hours: 12.0 per week
