Social Worker (Work First Family Assistance)

General Statement of Duties

The Department of Social Services is seeking a motivated, dependable professional to provide case management and employment services for the Work First Family Assistance (WFFA) and More Than a Job NC (MTAJ) programs.

Distinguishing Features

This position supports families in achieving self-sufficiency by reducing barriers to employment and navigating public assistance programs, including addressing the impact of the “benefits cliff.”

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of social work; or a master's degree in counseling; or

four-year degree in a human service field or related curriculum including at least 15 semester hours in courses related to social work or counseling and six months of social work or counseling experience; or

four-year degree and one year of experience in counseling or in a related human service field which provides experience in techniques of counseling, casework, group work, or community organization.

A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least two (2) years of NCFAST experience
• Knowledge of public assistance, Medicaid, and Economic Services programs
• Experience in social work or a related human services field
• Demonstrated understanding of the Forsyth County We Care Principles: Integrity, Awareness, Accountability, Excellence, and Respect

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Determine eligibility and provide case management, counseling, and employment services
• Assess client needs and develop, implement, and monitor individualized service and employment plans
• Assist clients in obtaining employment, education, and job training opportunities
• Identify barriers to employment (e.g., substance abuse, mental health, domestic violence) and coordinate appropriate referrals
• Educate clients on public benefits and the “benefits cliff” to support long-term financial stability
• Monitor participation and compliance; maintain accurate documentation in NCFAST, NCWORKS, and related systems
• Conduct home visits and provide transportation as needed
• Collaborate with community partners for outreach, recruitment, and service coordination
• Track outcomes and prepare reports to ensure program and state compliance
