About the position

We are looking for a software development intern to join an eight-person team. This position will focus primarily on helping the agency meet accessibility standards https://watech.wa.gov/accessibility with our existing applications. In addition, this position will work on a broad range of tasks and projects to ensure exposure to valuable job skills for the workplace while also helping us support the financial aid systems developed by WSAC.

Duties

We are looking specifically for recent college grads or soon-to-graduate students and are willing to provide flexible work hours. Many of us started as interns or work studies so we understand what it’s like trying to break into the job marked after graduation. Whether your abilities come from coursework, a previous internship, or your open-source side-project, if you can clearly and concisely communicate technical concepts and can demonstrate your passion for elegant solutions, then please apply.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work with web interfaces using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • Work with RESTful APIs
  • Work closely with internal staff to define feature sets and build intuitive products
  • Participate in design reviews and code reviews with the software development team
  • Contribute to the continuous modernization and evolution of our technology stack

Current Software Development Environment

Our software development tools evolve and change over time. We do not require experience in the following, but want to give a clear picture of the toolset currently in use:

  • C#
  • Vue.js
  • Visual Studio/Visual Studio Code
  • SQL Server
  • Entity Framework
  • Git
  • Jira bug tracker

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Software development experience in one or more general purpose programming languages (academic experience counts)
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science (or related field), or senior-level colege status with anticipated graduation by Summer 2026.
  • A commitment to honor equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Interest and ability to learn other coding languages, frameworks and tools as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with web technologies: JavaScript, HTML, CSS
  • Familiarity with relational databases
