About the Role:

As a Software Development Engineer in the durable goods manufacturing industry, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining software solutions that enhance manufacturing processes and product quality. Your work will directly impact the efficiency and innovation of production lines by integrating advanced software systems with hardware components. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers, product managers, and quality assurance to deliver scalable and reliable software products. This role requires a deep understanding of both software engineering principles and the unique challenges of manufacturing environments. Ultimately, your contributions will drive the digital transformation of manufacturing operations, enabling smarter, more automated, and data-driven production workflows.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Proven experience in software development using languages such as C++, C#, Java, or Python.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies.
  • Experience with embedded systems or industrial automation software is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant technical discipline.
  • Experience working in durable goods manufacturing or industrial automation environments.
  • Knowledge of PLC programming and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, OPC-UA).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and IoT technologies applied to manufacturing.
  • Certification in software development or project management (e.g., PMP, Scrum Master).

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy software applications tailored to manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to integrate embedded software with durable goods machinery.
  • Analyze system requirements and translate them into robust, maintainable code following best practices.
  • Participate in code reviews, debugging, and performance tuning to ensure high-quality software delivery.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, provide technical guidance, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain documentation for software design, development processes, and user manuals.
  • Implement and support automation tools to streamline manufacturing workflows and data collection.

Skills:

In this role, your programming skills will be essential for developing reliable and efficient software that interfaces with manufacturing hardware. Your problem-solving abilities will help you troubleshoot complex integration issues between software and physical devices. Communication skills are vital as you will regularly collaborate with engineers from different disciplines to align software solutions with manufacturing needs. Your knowledge of embedded systems and automation protocols will enable you to create seamless interactions between software and machinery. Additionally, your familiarity with agile development and CI/CD practices will ensure that software updates are delivered quickly and with high quality, supporting continuous improvement in manufacturing operations.
