The Brief

A globally focused shipping and transportation organisation is continuing to drive an ambitious and complex change and transformational programme to deliver a service of excellence for its customers and clients worldwide. The Global CTIO has a mandate from the Maersk board to lead the Technology transformation of Maersk which will enable the Maersk business strategy to become the global integrator of container logistics through digitising the Maersk business processes and customer engagement.

The Technology Function is fundamental to enable the company’s transformation and in response to this demand, our in-house technological capability is growing exponentially. Why this job matters?

The Network Operational Intelligence Engineering function is essential to our transformation, it is a central team within Network Architecture & Engineering, responsible for the delivery of product roadmaps, technical vision and quality across Fulfilment and Assurance that underpin our network and perimeter capabilities and products.

Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager you will serve as a Software Engineer, ensuring that our systems and tools for the network operational intelligence realise business value. Your role is responsible for technical design and delivery of solutions across the network applications landscape from monitoring to zero touch remediation. All built to industry leading standards and running seamlessly across various cloud and on-prem platforms, allowing frictionless and seamless operations of our network and perimeter platforms.

Scope

The Network Operational Intelligence team at Maersk is expanding into AI-driven network operations, focusing on building intelligent, autonomous systems that enhance the management of data networks across Core, Edge, and Cloud locations (offices, warehouses, terminals, vessels, data centres, cloud environments, etc.) and the perimeter services that secure them.

This role focuses on building network monitoring solutions through open-source tooling, Generative AI and integrations into network elements/managers spread across various geographies, location and technology domains (WAN/LAN/Cloud etc).

Key areas include:

  • Scalable Instrumentation and Collection Engineering : Ability to discover, collect and measure availability, performance and health of network elements in real-time using industry protocols (SNMP, Netconf, Telemetry etc).
  • Product Engineering : Design and develop scalable systems which can operate in a distributed environment (edge to cloud) and are highly available. Produce detailed system design blueprints capturing data modeling, API design and networking aspects clearly.
  • Realtime Streaming and Intelligent Operational Insights : Expertise building and managing large pipelines of real-time structured datasets (netflow, snmp, traces, logs, json etc) and ability to develop solutions for enrichment, extraction and correlation (CEP etc) using frameworks like Apache Spark/Flink or similar.
  • Platform Engineering and CI/CD: Expertise in Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP) infrastructure design and cost optimization. Expertise in building CI/CD pipelines for deployments across containerized and physical hardware.
  • Integration with Core Network Stack : Apply AI capabilities across domains such as:
    • WAN: Internet | IP/MPLS | Next-Gen/SD WAN
    • LAN: DC Networking | SDN | Fixed & Wireless
    • Perimeter: Load balancers | NG Firewalls | Security Service Edge

Specific Job Requirements

We are looking for a Software Engineer with 3+ yrs experience possessing product mindset and passion for building AI-driven solutions that transform how Maersk manages, operates, and understands global network infrastructure.

You will:

  • Collaborate closely with Network SMEs, Product Owners, and Engineers to identify AI opportunities in telemetry analysis, event correlation, configuration analysis, and operational summarization.
  • Build GenAI-powered tools to enhance observability, enable root cause analysis, and provide intelligent insights through natural language interfaces.
  • Develop and deploy agent-based systems that integrate with network management platforms and decision-support systems.
  • Lead the design and implementation of large-scale telemetry, network structured data and logs.
  • Implement best practices in data modelling, system design, architecture, and security in production-grade environments.
  • Continuously evaluate and experiment with emerging frameworks and tools for use in network monitoring and automation space.
  • Follow secure coding practices, maintain high-quality code, and participate in peer reviews and testing.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience with front-end and back-end skillsets. Java Proficiency (Java 17+) and Spring Ecosystem (Spring MVC, Data JPA, Security etc) with strong SQL and NoSQL integration expertise. React.js and javascript expertise will be a value add.
  • Strong knowledge of runtime (virtualisation, containers and Kubernetes) and expertise with test driven development using frameworks like cypress, playwright, selenium etc.
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and tooling: Github Actions, Jenkins, Gitlab CI or similar. Monitoring and Observability - logging/tracing and alerting with knowledge of SRE integrations into opensource tooling like Grafana/ELK etc.
  • Strong Knowledge and demonstrable hands-on experience with middleware technologies (Kafka, API gateways etc) and Data Engineering tools/frameworks like Apache Spark, Airflow, Flink and Hadoop ecosystems.
  • Expertise with security (OAuth2, CSRF/XSS protection), secure coding practice and Performance Optimization - JVM tuning, performance profiling, caching, lazy loading, rate limiting and high availability in large datasets.
  • Expertise building solutions for highly available network management, monitoring or similar functions is desired. Technical domain knowledge in networking fundamentals, Switching & Routing and Data Center Technologies.
  • Expertise in Public, Private and Hybrid Cloud technologies (DC, AWS, Azure, GCP etc).
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to learn and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a willingness to work in a cross-functional team.
