We work with our government customers in defense and civilian agencies to identify new technologies.

The Opportunity
The Software Engineer will support a U.S. Government mission by conducting technical evaluations of software tools and data systems used to access, process, and analyze Publicly Available Information (PAI) and Commercially Available Information (CAI).
This role involves assessing software capabilities, data handling practices, performance, and security to determine suitability for government use. The engineer will analyze both proprietary and commercial solutions, contribute to system validation efforts, and provide technical recommendations to inform acquisition, research, and operational decisions.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in software engineering, data system architecture, and technology assessment, with the ability to bridge technical findings with mission requirements

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate software tools, platforms, and data systems used for collecting, processing, or analyzing PAI/CAI.
  • Conduct hands-on technical assessments of tool functionality, performance, interoperability, and security posture.
  • Assess data provenance, integrity, and compliance of software systems with government privacy and cybersecurity standards.
  • Review vendor-provided technical documentation, APIs, and data schemas for system compatibility and risk evaluation.
  • Develop and execute test plans and evaluation criteria to assess system functionality and mission alignment.
  • Collaborate with intelligence analysts, data scientists, and acquisition professionals to translate mission needs into technical evaluation metrics.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, risk assessments, and recommendations to guide government decision-making.
  • Support prototype testing, proof-of-concept evaluations, and pilot deployments of emerging tools and platforms.
  • Maintain awareness of new software technologies, data architectures, and commercial offerings relevant to open-source data exploitation.

  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance with the US Government.

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
Required Skills, Experience & Abilities
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in software engineering, systems evaluation, or technical assessment.
  • Strong understanding of software development principles, system architecture, and data integration concepts.
  • Experience with evaluating or testing complex data systems, APIs, and analytic software solutions.
  • Familiarity with open-source and commercial data ecosystems, including data collection and management tools.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and government data protection standards.
  • Proficiency with scripting or automation tools (e.g., Python, PowerShell, or Bash) for system evaluation and data analysis.
  • Excellent analytical and technical writing skills, with experience preparing structured technical assessments.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting U.S. Government, defense, or intelligence community technology assessment programs.
  • Knowledge of OSINT, PAI/CAI data architectures, and data acquisition platforms.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience evaluating commercial software vendors, data brokers, or SaaS platforms.
  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or GIAC Open Source Intelligence (GOSI).
  • Understanding of software assurance, system accreditation, and risk management frameworks (RMF, NIST 800-53).
