Software Engineering Manager

About Stellar Industrial Supply

At Stellar, we believe a great company is built by great people who enjoy working together. We take care of our customers by taking care of each other first. Culture isn’t a buzzword here — it’s how we operate. We value trust, accountability, and people who show up ready to help—not hide behind process.

The Role

We are seeking a Software Engineering Manager (Automation & Integration) who leads from the front. This is not a “review pull requests from a distance” role. You will actively design, build, and improve systems while leading a team of developers and driving projects from idea to delivery.

This role leads our software engineering team while shaping how we use modern low-code / no-code platforms — primarily within the Microsoft ecosystem — to automate processes, integrate systems, and reduce unnecessary custom development.

The goal is not to eliminate engineering, but to ensure it is applied where it creates the most value.

This role requires a high level of autonomy, sound judgment, and comfort with ambiguity. The ideal candidate will act as a trusted technical partner, helping drive innovation, challenge assumptions, and move the organization forward.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers with a focus on accountability, collaboration, and technical excellence
  • Actively design, build, and maintain .NET applications and Web APIs
  • Own and guide software architecture, technical standards, and long-term system direction
  • Evaluate when to use low-code / no-code platforms (such as Microsoft Power Platform) versus custom development
  • Define and implement patterns for automation and system integration across ERP (P21), SQL, Microsoft 365, and other platforms
  • Work directly with users and stakeholders to gather requirements and shape practical, scalable solutions
  • Drive project planning, prioritization, and delivery across multiple initiatives
  • Navigate ambiguity, tradeoffs, and constraints with practical, business-aware decision-making
  • Perform code reviews and maintain high standards for quality, performance, and maintainability
  • Continuously improve how the team builds, delivers, and supports solutions

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong independent thinker who operates with minimal oversight
  • Comfortable making decisions without perfect information
  • Proven experience managing developers and delivering complex software projects
  • Strong architectural judgment and ability to explain technical decisions clearly
  • Comfortable working directly with business users to define and refine solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation, modernization, or meaningful change
  • Willingness to challenge assumptions (including leadership’s) in service of better outcomes
  • Direct, clear communicator — not political, not passive
  • Preference for outcomes over process, and pragmatism over perfection
  • Someone who values people, culture, and teamwork as much as technical excellence

Why Stellar

  • People-first culture that truly values trust and accountability
  • Leadership that values clarity, ownership, and results
  • The opportunity to build systems that directly impact the business
  • A team that works hard, supports each other, and avoids unnecessary complexity

This role blends engineering leadership with platform thinking.
Success comes from knowing:

  • when to build
  • when to automate
  • and how to move the business forward without adding unnecessary complexity
