Software Engineering Manager - Edits Foundations

The Edits Foundation team builds the core technical infrastructure of the Edits and Instagram apps, with a focus on audio/video rendering engines, processing and effects technologies, scalability, platformization and performance. We’re part of the Edits product group, focused on growing the Edits app and Instagram creative ecosystem towards being the industry-leading platform for creativity.

Software Engineering Manager - Edits Foundations Responsibilities:

Optimizing media processing and rendering algorithms on mobile devices to ensure smooth video playback at required frame rates and resolutions, scaling to complex compositions, and high media quality and accuracy
Proven track record of success for scalable and performant architecture, and influencing within and beyond the team. This team sets the standard not just for the Edits app and organization, but all of Instagram and radiating across Meta
Diving into engineering challenges at sufficient level of detail, zooming in and out of problem spaces as needed to best steer and unblock the team and strategy. In particular, finding the just-right balance of enabling and guiding the team’s formidable talent
Ideating, aligning and driving strategy across leadership and organization boundaries
Balancing complex needs and dependencies across the Edits and Instagram apps

Minimum Qualifications:

Leadership experience supporting and growing a thriving organization, collaborating with multiple experienced engineers
Past technical expertise in mobile, video and/or performance centric applications, ideally in the video editing, streaming, graphics or gaming space
Communication skills to bridge leadership, product and technical conversations, build consensus across people and organizations, and drive strategy across multiple stakeholders and functions
Product sense - knowing what investments are most meaningful to users
2+ years of experience in management
People-focused management style that strongly aligns personal growth with impact for the organization. In particular, have clear approaches and strategies for maximizing the growth, impact and fulfillment of engineers

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Graphics, color spaces, HDR, shaders
Experience with Android media processing internals
Experience with iOS AVFoundation system

$184,000/year to $257,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
