KDHE is comprised of three divisions: Public Health, Environment, and Health Care Finance (which includes the State’s Medicaid program, KanCare). The position location is in Wichita, KS, not Ulysses, KS District Office – Wichita, KS.
COMPLIANCE INSPECTIONS: A. Performs inspections and evaluation of permitted solid waste facilities, hazardous waste generators, and hazardous waste TSD facilities to determine compliance with federal and state environmental statutes and regulations. B. Reports: Compiles inspection and technical data to prepare reports and correspondence. Submit inspection reports through the supervisor within 30 calendar days of initial inspection. Provide facility with inspection results upon completion of inspection or in writing within 7 calendar days. Where appropriate, telephonic notification of inspection results may be used. C. Follow-up: Reviews corrective action plans and evaluates facility actions to return to compliance. Track compliance efforts by facilities and follow-up corrective actions within 10 calendar days of compliance deadlines. When facilities fail to come into compliance after deadline, refer to the District Environmental Administrator (DEA) for consideration. D. Waste Inspector Training: Completes BWM training requirements for solid and hazardous waste. Obtain OSHA 40-hour training and remain certified with annual refresher training for hazardous site work.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
COMPLAINT INVESTIGATIONS: Performs special investigations of citizen complaints regarding solid and hazardous wastes. Prepare investigation reports within 10 calendar days of responding to complaint. Provide appropriate follow-up to ensure correction of any violations of federal or state regulations.

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:
Within first six months of employment, incumbent is required to pass a comprehensive baseline physical that demonstrates the ability to utilize personal protective equipment. The physical will be scheduled by KDHE during the first weeks of employment. Thereafter, the incumbent is required to pass an annual physical that demonstrates the ability to use personal protective equipment.
Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate: A valid Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate is a condition of employment for all employees of the State of Kansas. Applicants (including non-residents) who receive a formal job offer for a state job, are required to obtain a valid Tax Clearance within ten (10) days of the job offer. Tax Clearance can be obtained through the Kansas Department of Revenue who reviews individual accounts for compliance with Kansas Tax Law. If you have a missing tax return(s) or owe taxes to the State of Kansas, please know that the Kansas Department of Revenue will work with you.
