SolidWorks CAD Designer / Product Developer (Contract Role)

Sound Advice is a product development and R&D studio located in Ventura, California. We design and build products across audio, wellness, and consumer technology. We’re seeking a skilled SolidWorks designer to join our team on a contract basis. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, hands-on, and experienced in developing parts and assemblies for mass production.

This is a contract role (approximately 15–20 hours per week, flexible schedule) with potential for ongoing work as projects evolve. You’ll collaborate with our design and engineering team to create, refine, and document products that move efficiently from concept to manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Create and manage detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks
• Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles for CNC, injection molding, sheet metal, and other production methods
• Develop parts and assemblies optimized for high-volume manufacturing
• Prepare vendor-ready files, tolerance documentation, and BOMs
• Collaborate with engineers and fabricators to solve design and build challenges
• Support prototype iterations and production-ready documentation

Qualifications

• Proficiency in SolidWorks (assemblies, surfacing, and mechanical design)
• Demonstrated experience designing components for mass production
• Strong understanding of DFM and manufacturing processes
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Education or background in mechanical design or engineering preferred
• Contractors must provide their own workstation and SolidWorks license
