The Department of Pediatrics in the School of Medicine seeks applications for a Special Payroll Research Assistant working in the Glycogen Storage Disease laboratory, assisting with animal work and experiments conducted in the lab.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Perform animal related works, tissue sample collection, prepare reagents, assists or performs sample analysis according to protocols; prepares reports and maintains records of research findings.
Perform in vivo analysis and tissue sample collection from mice including blood collection, mating cage set ups, genotyping and euthanasia under IACUC approved protocols. Training will be provided to perform, if it is needed, for experiments. It is required to obtain and maintain training to work animal follow recommendations for transportation, housing and adequate care of animals as required by the Center for Comparative Medicine (CCM)
Prepares specimens/samples for analysis according to the protocols. These includes but not limited to the isolation of DNA, RNA, cDNA synthesis, qPCR, metabolites analysis, histological analysis and western blotting methodologies with limited supervision
Maintains data in personal laboratory notebooks and in digital formats; acquisition of experimental data using laboratory equipment
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Knowledge of laboratory equipment, procedures, techniques and terminology
Ability to carry out written and oral instructions
Ability to perform calculations according to the protocols
Ability to maintain technical records and prepare accurate reports.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
One year or more experience in related laboratory work.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
One year or more experience in working animal (mice) and/or genetic/metabolic analysis will be preferred.
SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week; Scheduled to be determined based on needs of department.
HOURLY RATE: $28.15
This position is eligible for employer subsidized healthcare coverage.
