General Description of the Role

The role of the Board Certified Behavior Consultant (BCBA) provides both direct services and interventions to students as well as consultation and collaboration with school personnel including but not limited to teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, school psychologists, and other district staff. The BCBA works in schools to conduct behavioral assessments for the special education evaluation process, develop intervention plans, and support students with behavioral challenges and adaptive skills. The BCBA reports directly to the Special Education Director and the building leaders in the districts within the Administrative Unit.

Qualifications Required

Education: Hold a Master's Degree in Special Education, Applied Behavior Analysis, School Social Work, School Psychology, School Counseling or other related field

Licensure: Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Special Education Teaching License OR a Special Service Provider license, Must have completed an 8-hour supervision CEU to be able to supervise RBTs

Supervisor: Special Education Director

Contract Days: 220

Compensation: 55,480 - 110,085 DOE

Status: Exempt

Working Conditions: Heavy lifting; frequent travel required, including overnights; management and de-escalation of students with challenging behaviors

Major Areas of Responsibility and Duties Specific to this Job

  • Provide parent support and training.
  • Skills in conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs),
  • Developing of individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs),
  • Skills Training teachers and staff on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and strategies
  • Support multiple school districts within the Administrative Unit
  • Knowledge of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) strategies
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, especially IDEA, Section 504 and Colorado House Bill 22-1260 (Access to Medically Necessary Services For Students) is required
  • Experience supervising Registered Behavior Technicians is highly preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills required
  • Application and knowledge of data driven interventions focused on improving student behavioral outcomes
  • Ability to collect, monitor and interpret data
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • High degree of integrity in handling confidential information

Policy

  • Implement and enforce existing CO River BOCES Policies and Procedures, specifically related to ECEA and IDEA.
  • Personnel support, recruit, and training of Registered Behavioral Technicians
  • Conduct Staff in-service and professional development as related to addressing challenging behaviors.

Other Duties

  • Be responsible for an effective public relations program regarding the Administrative Unit
  • Oversee completion of reports, evaluations, and other reports deemed necessary
