Overview
EMIT Learning is seeking an experienced Special Education Teacher to work on our school campus in San Jose, CA for the upcoming school year 2025-26.

SET needed in San Jose, CA

Age Group: All

Start: August 2025

End date: June 2026 (Possible extension)

Total hours: 35 - 40 hours per week (will include 30-minute unpaid lunch)

Required License/Certification: Mild/Mod or Mod/Sev

Duties

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to the unique needs of each student.
  • Utilize effective classroom management strategies to create a positive learning environment.
  • Design and adapt curriculum materials for students with varying abilities, including those with autism and developmental disabilities.
  • Conduct assessments and standardized testing to evaluate student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
  • Provide speech therapy, behavioral therapy, and early intervention services as needed.
  • Collaborate with parents, caregivers, and other professionals to support student development and address any concerns.
  • Plan engaging lessons that incorporate literacy education, math, physical education, and other subjects while utilizing learning technology.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior management strategies, and communication logs.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in special education.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Valid teaching certification in Special Education.
  • Experience working with children in various settings such as daycare, preschool, or private schools is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of childhood development principles and behavior management techniques.
  • Proficiency in lesson planning and curriculum development tailored for special education settings.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Familiarity with Montessori methods or early childhood education practices is a plus.

Pay: $55.00 - $63.00 per hour
