Special Education Teacher

Job Description: Special Education Teacher — Candidate Requirements Location: MacCormick Secure Center, 300 South Road, Brooktondale, NY 14817 Hourly Rate: $65 – $70/hour Work Schedule: 37.5 hours/week; 184 regular school days plus up to 35 summer days. In-person services required. Contract Term: 5 years Required Qualifications ● NYS Special Education Teacher certification (Grades 7–12 or K–12). ● Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education. ● Minimum 1–3 years’ experience as a Special Education Teacher. ● Strong classroom management, behavioral supports, IEP development, and documentation skills. ● Excellent written and oral communication skills. ● Legally authorized to work in the United States. Required Documentation ● Resume that documents all positions held during the last five (5) years. ● Proof of NYS certification and official degree credential(s). ● Three (3) professional references able to verify capacity, communication, and facilitation skills — at least one reference must be from within the past 12 months. Background / Clearances ● Clearance from the NYS State Central Registry (SCR). ● Staff Exclusion List (SEL) check. ● Criminal history background check (through DCJS and FBI). ● Agreement to complete and sign confidentiality/nondisclosure and any facility-required clearance forms. Additional Requirements ● Must participate in and pass an interview with facility staff prior to placement. ● Must work in-person at the facility and comply with all security procedures (including restrictions on personal items/devices). ● Must be willing to travel if pre-approved (e.g., for training). ● Must maintain required logs, prepare IEP/504 drafts, attend CSE meetings, and participate in periodic program evaluations or reporting.
