Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating a supportive and inclusive classroom environment for students with diverse learning needs. This role requires a strong commitment to fostering the academic, social, and emotional growth of students with disabilities, including autism and developmental disabilities. The Special Education Teacher will work collaboratively with parents, staff, and specialists to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) and implement effective teaching strategies tailored to each student's unique needs.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Create engaging lesson plans that accommodate various learning styles and abilities.
- Utilize effective classroom management techniques to maintain a positive learning environment.
- Provide support in areas such as literacy education, math, and physical education tailored to individual student goals.
- Collaborate with speech therapists, behavioral therapists, and other specialists to enhance student learning outcomes.
- Conduct assessments and standardized testing to monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed.
- Foster communication skills through various teaching methods, including early intervention strategies.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in special education and childhood development.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with parents regarding their child's achievements and challenges.
Skills
- Strong classroom management skills to create an organized and effective learning environment.
- Experience working with individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in curriculum development and lesson planning that meets the needs of diverse learners.
- Knowledge of early childhood education principles, including toddler care and preschool experience.
- Familiarity with learning technology that supports special education initiatives.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with students, parents, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Background in behavioral health or behavioral therapy techniques beneficial for managing classroom behaviors.
- Understanding of child welfare practices to ensure a safe learning environment for all students.
