- Develop and execute individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with various disabilities, including autism, hearing impairments, and developmental delays
- Implement evidence-based teaching methods such as speech therapy techniques, behavioral management strategies, and curriculum development tailored to early childhood or elementary levels
- Adapt lesson plans to meet the diverse needs of learners in areas such as literacy education, math, and life skills
- Manage classroom behavior effectively through positive reinforcement and behavioral health practices to create a safe learning environment
- Conduct assessments using standardized testing tools to monitor progress and adjust instructional approaches accordingly
- Collaborate with speech therapists, behavioral therapists, and other specialists to support comprehensive student development
- Engage in ongoing professional development related to childhood development, deaf education, working with individuals with autism or disabilities, and early intervention strategies
- Maintain detailed records of student progress, attendance, and IEP compliance while ensuring clear communication with families about their child's growth and needs
- Incorporate library services or Montessori methods where appropriate to enrich learning experiences for preschool or early childhood students
- Provide mentorship and tutoring to students requiring additional support outside regular classroom hours
Experience
- Prior classroom experience working with children in special education settings is essential
- Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development, lesson planning, and classroom management for diverse learners
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities such as autism spectrum disorder or developmental delays preferred
- Knowledge of behavioral therapy techniques, behavior management strategies, and literacy or math instruction highly valued
- Familiarity with IEP processes, standardized testing procedures, and early childhood education frameworks such as Montessori or preschool programs is advantageous
- Strong communication skills for collaborating effectively with colleagues, families, and support teams
- Proven ability to adapt teaching methods to meet individual student needs while fostering an inclusive classroom environment
