Special Education Teacher (Part-time)

Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with students who have diverse learning needs and the ability to create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment in compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 , and state regulations for emotionally conflicted and academically challenged adolescents who have been placed in residential school settings. This role includes instructional duties and case management responsibilities, ensuring that each student's individualized education plan (IEP) is implemented with fidelity. The teacher will collaborate with general education staff, related service providers, families, LEA, and external agencies to promote student growth in academic, social, and behavioral domains. The teacher will implement tailored lesson plans and foster a positive learning atmosphere that encourages student growth and development. Ensures ongoing compliance with Cognia and COA guidelines. Maintains ongoing applicable oral and written communications with applicable internal and external parties. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
  • Create engaging lesson plans that accommodate various learning styles and abilities.
  • Utilize effective classroom management techniques to maintain a conducive learning environment.
  • Collaborate teachers and support staff to ensure comprehensive educational support.
  • Provide tutoring and mentoring to students as needed, focusing on literacy, math, and other core subjects.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge of special education practices.

Skills

  • Proficiency in curriculum development tailored for special education needs.
  • Knowledge of high school graduation requirements, GED requirements, and post-secondary options.
  • Knowledge of special education laws and policies.
  • Some knowledge of the juvenile justice system.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum.
  • Effective classroom management skills to create a structured learning environment.
  • Expertise in lesson planning that incorporates diverse learning methodologies.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with students, families, staff, and representatives of social service agencies effectively.
  • Knowledge of literacy education practices, including reading instruction strategies.
  • Familiarity with IEP processes and documentation requirements.
