JOB PURPOSE:
To apply deep technical and operational expertise and experience to support the Leadership to develop the systems, processes, Area culture and the people to deliver safe, sustainable, high-quality production outcomes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
2.1 Support the Leadership to create and implement a culture of zero harm, supported by a set of EHS systems and work practices that deliver the highest performance standards

the behaviors that enable the company to achieve the highest EHS standards. Lead and motivate the teams to follow own example.

Teach the teams the principles
, policies, SOPs and behaviors required to deliver the highest levels of EHS performance.

Develop and implement
EHS systems and processes (eg: auditable systems for 5S / housekeeping including stacking, storage, product segregation, cleanliness, SOPs). Implement systems to report non-conformances.

Identify EHS improvement opportunities
; execute the improvements (eg: reduce waste; maximize recycling).

Action EHS tasks and projects
including delivering Safety interactions, actioning risk assessments for all tasks and projects, actioning workplace audits, participating in incident and accident investigations, ensuring mobile equipment safety and consistency, continuous application of the SA Golden Rules and generation of the appropriate equipment notifications Responsible for emergency procedures and departmental emergency simulations. Take control of any incident and activate the emergency protocols under his/her operating area of responsibilities.

Coordinates Projects
Co-ordinate all interdepartmental and cross-departmental projects; Capital and in-house projects.
2.2 Interface management and networking

The job holder may be asked to stand in for the department Superintendents or related key leadership role.

Promote interaction and integration between the process team and the operation teams.
2.3 Support department to deliver the requested quality work and product:
-
Oversee operating systems process parameter and evaluate the impact on carbon product quality and impact on its equipment performance.
-
Monitor the process control parameters, their normal range of operation, and their impact on the product and the performance in the department.
-
Ensure corrective actions are taken regarding process issues if there is non-conformity in parameters, work practices, raw materials, product quality.
-
Maintain standard control practices across the carbon areas to minimize emissions to the environment and optimize working conditions, production and production quality.

Participate at the development of strategies for process improvements.
-
Create, participate at a change approval process to ensure that changes to practices are validated with other areas of the potline that may be impacted by the change.
-
Identify needs of research and development by coordinating a strategy and maintaining communication with members of the organizations research and development teams.
-
Lead, coach or participate in technical team investigation to solve issues.
-
Leads the monitoring and improving reporting system. Ensure quality results are regularly reported by preparing and issuing the department’s routine quality reports.

Lead or participate at the End of Month or to Technical Audit (out/in house).
-
Proposes and participates in and conducts quality and process improvement trials as required.
-
Role-model the behaviors that enable the Technical Team to achieve the highest standards in quality and output. Lead and motivate the teams to do the same.

Teach and coach the teams for technical skills and the operational procedures (SOPs) to enable high levels of production performance.

Identify improvement opportunities; apply Continuous Improvement techniques to refine systems and SOPs and implement improvement projects.

Participate in the main Maintenance Shut Down and its pacification.
2.4 Support the Leadership to develop the teams’ technical, operational and people skills to deliver a sustainable improvement in capability and performance.
Support the Leadership to:

Action one-on-one development initiatives (observe; coach; train). Notify the leadership of persistent cases of under-performance
-
Create training and development strategies. Leverage SA training and development resources as well as Area and Departmental programs and resources.

Succession plan for key technical position and development of technical target key individuals to support the ongoing needs of the organization.

2.5 Support the Supervisors and Engineers to lead their teams to deliver on the departmental KPIs targets Role

the behaviors that enable the Supervisor and the teams to achieve the highest standards in quality and output. Lead and motivate the teams to do the same

Teach the teams technical
skills and the operational procedures (SOPs) to enable high levels of production performance

Identify improvement opportunities; apply Continuous Improvement techniques
to refine systems and SOPs and implement improvement projects.
Action Area tasks;
work in team with the department supervisors, process engineers and senior engineers.
2.6 Lead projects to deliver a start-up, a new initiative or an improvement in Area performance
Depending on the circumstances, the Specialist may lead a team, or coach and support others to lead a team. Tasks will include:

Planning the manpower.

Planning the project, the start-up or the improvement plan
-
Ensuring the Area is organized and able to operate at maximum efficiency
-
Actioning technical planning. (example: Execute the 5-year departmental strategic plan)

Ensuring the area is well-organized for tools
-
Establishing the systems for work, tools and people
-
Implementing checklists, and ensuring the quality of the outputs.
2.7 Monitor, control and conserve resources to minimize waste and maximize profits
-
Optimize resource usage and minimize waste (eg: monitor PPE usage; conserve small tools, optimize power per operational assets, controlling additional power/energy per operational assets and ensure operating department/assigned section(s) are in controlled process parameters within the operating window/targeted KPIs)

Control time and attendance while maintaining accurate SAP records; control costs

Operate equipment and production systems to comply with budgets
-
Identify ways to decrease costs and increase productivity or resource-utilization
-
Ensure compliance with the ISO standard through the work application on day-to-day work and follow up.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
Essential qualifications, experience and skills:
Degree in science or engineering discipline is essential to understand process mechanisms, cause and effect, and statistical methods used to control the process with + 8 years’ experiences.

Preferred experience in Value added final products in addition to other delivered products

knowledge of the industry, the business and the technical and operational aspects of production

Specialist skills
: Significant exposure over a period to world’s best practice (site visits, conferences, specialized training). The capacity to constantly update own specialist skills by reading, participating in training and development, attending international conferences and by drawing on professional networks

The Specialist is required to operate independently and to apply and
transfer his/her strong technical knowledge
and skill. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have at least 10 years of relevant experience
