Purpose & Impact
The Speech-Language Pathologist identifies and treats communication disorders that adversely affect a student’s educational performance. By providing direct therapy, conducting evaluations, and maintaining high-integrity digital records, the SLP ensures that every student has the communication tools needed to access the curriculum and succeed socially and academically.
Key Responsibilities
- Therapy & Intervention:
- Provide high-quality direct therapy to students with speech and language impairments (articulation, fluency, voice, and language) as outlined in their IEPs.
- Design and implement creative, curriculum-based therapy sessions that translate to classroom success.
- Evaluations & Eligibility:
- Conduct comprehensive speech and language evaluations and interpret assessment data to determine eligibility.
- Lead the Speech-Language component of the Eligibility Determination process during IEP meetings.
- ECATS Management & Compliance:
- Proficiently navigate and utilize ECATS for all student documentation, including IEP development, progress monitoring, and meeting invitations.
- Ensure all service logs and session notes are entered into ECATS in a timely manner to maintain 100% compliance with state reporting.
- Manage the Medicaid billing process within the ECATS platform for all eligible students to support school cost-recovery.
- Consultation & Collaboration:
- Train teachers and staff on how to support students with communication needs in the general education setting.
- Assist in the selection and implementation of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices for non-verbal students.
