The Speech Therapist is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients with speech, language, voice, and swallowing disorders. The role involves working closely with physicians, psychologists, nurses, and other allied health professionals to provide effective therapy plans that improve communication skills and enhance patients’ quality of life.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Duties
- Assess, diagnose, and treat patients with speech, language, communication, voice, and swallowing disorders.
- Develop individualized treatment and therapy plans tailored to each patient’s needs.
- Conduct speech and language evaluations using standardized tests, clinical observations, and interviews.
- Provide therapy for patients across different age groups (children, adolescents, adults, elderly).
- Work with patients who have medical conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, autism spectrum disorder, cleft palate, hearing impairment, or neurological conditions.
- Train patients and caregivers on therapy techniques, home programs, and communication strategies.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, progress notes, and reports.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, licensing requirements, and clinic protocols.
- Prepare periodic reports for management, highlighting patient progress and departmental needs.
Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, educators).
- Provide guidance and support to families and caregivers to encourage patient improvement.
- Educate staff and community on communication disorders and therapy techniques when required.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology (or equivalent).
- Licensure/Certification: Valid professional license or eligibility to practice as a Speech Therapist in [country/UAE].
- Experience: Minimum [2–3 years] clinical experience in speech and language therapy (experience in medical/rehabilitation centers preferred).
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong diagnostic and therapeutic skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work with patients of all ages and diverse conditions.
- Empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity.
- Strong documentation and report-writing skills.
- Languages: Proficiency in English (Arabic is an advantage).
