Sports Psychiatrist

Job Overview:

• Next Professional Athlete (NPA), a dynamic Sports Recruiting Network and non-profit organization, is seeking a Sports Psychiatrist to join our expanding team of performance professionals. In this role, you will design, develop, and deliver innovative Psychological Performance Programs tailored for athletes across all levels — from aspiring amateurs to elite competitors.
• As a Sports Psychiatrist within the NPA Network, you will work directly with athletes through 1-on-1 virtual consultations, helping them strengthen their mental resilience, enhance focus under pressure, and develop healthy performance habits. Your programs will be offered through Partnership Referral Agreements and may be integrated into NPA’s broader suite of training and recruiting services.
• The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, athlete-centered professional who combines clinical expertise with a deep understanding of sports culture and athlete mindset. You will play a key role in shaping NPA’s growing mental performance platform by producing new or refined psychological programs that can be offered as personalized training and support services for our athletes.

Job Duties:

• Develop, design, and implement customized Psychological Performance Programs tailored to the unique mental, emotional, and motivational needs of athletes at all levels.
• Conduct 1-on-1 virtual sessions with athletes within the NPA Sports Recruiting Network to evaluate, support, and enhance their psychological readiness and performance mindset.
• Collaborate with coaches, trainers, nutritionists, and other allied health professionals to ensure a holistic and integrated athlete development approach.
• Assess and track athletes’ progress using measurable psychological and behavioral performance metrics, providing ongoing recommendations for growth and resilience training.
• Maintain detailed and confidential documentation of all athlete interactions and program outcomes, adhering to professional ethical and HIPAA-compliant standards.
• Assist NPA in the creation and refinement of market-ready Psychological Training Programs for partnership sales and referral distribution through NPA’s network platform.
• Stay current with emerging research, technologies, and methodologies in sports psychiatry, performance psychology, and mental wellness to continually improve program effectiveness.
• Demonstrate leadership, professionalism, and integrity while representing the NPA brand across digital and in-person environments.

Requirements:

• Education: A Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree specializing in Psychiatry; Board Certification in Sports Psychiatry or related discipline preferred.
• Candidates with a Master’s or Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Sports Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Behavioral Science with direct athletic experience will also be considered.
• Experience: Minimum of 2–4 years of experience working with competitive or professional athletes, sports teams, or performance-driven clients.
• Proven ability to develop and deliver personalized psychological or mental performance programs that enhance athletic focus, emotional regulation, motivation, and resilience under pressure.
• Strong understanding of sports culture, athlete identity, and the mental health challenges associated with training, competition, injury, and recovery.
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex psychological concepts in clear, relatable terms to athletes, coaches, and parents.
• Proficiency in virtual therapy or telehealth delivery platforms (e.g., Zoom, Doxy.me, or similar) with professional etiquette in remote settings.
• Commitment to ethical practice, confidentiality, and the highest standards of professional conduct under APA and AMA guidelines.
• Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple athlete cases and collaborative projects simultaneously.
• Demonstrated passion for sports, education, and helping athletes reach their highest potential both on and off the field.
