Sports Reporter / Reporter

The River County News seeks a full-time Sports and General Assignment reporter to cover the Jerseyville area.

Assignments will be based around local sports, but may also include city council, school board, business, and events.

Responsibilities:

• Pitch, edit and write multiple news stories each week
• Conduct interviews in-person and over the phone
• Supplement stories with photos
• Work under deadline
• Synthesis material from multiple sources
• Shift work hours to attend weekend or after-work events
• Represent the Herald in a professional manner

A journalism degree and some experience is preferred, but not required. Any candidate with excellent writing and photography skills is encouraged to apply. Adobe InDesign skills are also highly desirable.
