Key Responsibilities
- Machine Operation and Setup: Technicians operate advanced machines to coil wire, form the characteristic hourglass shape of Bonnell springs, and assemble them into units using helical wires. They are responsible for setting parameters on control panels, such as wire diameter, spring height, coil size, and spacing, to meet specific product requirements.
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting: A core duty involves performing routine machine maintenance, including ensuring automatic lubrication systems are functional and addressing minor mechanical or electrical faults. They must quickly diagnose issues to minimize production downtime.
- Quality Control: They monitor the production process to ensure all springs and assembled units meet the required quality standards and specifications, leveraging computerized control systems for precision.
- Safety and Compliance: Adhering to safety protocols is paramount. This includes utilizing safety guards and emergency stop features, and ensuring all operations comply with safety regulations.
- Material Handling: Managing the feeding of high-tensile steel wire from spools into the machine and handling finished spring units.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding mechanical systems, electrical components (PLCs, servo motors), and automation in manufacturing settings.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot machine malfunctions and adjust settings for optimal performance.
- Attention to Detail: Precision is necessary to ensure spring dimensions and tension are uniform.
- Physical Stamina: The role may require standing for long periods and some manual labor, though modern machines minimize heavy lifting.
