As a SQL Developer at Brandt Information Services, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining the databases that power our enterprise-scale software solutions serving state agencies and the outdoor recreation industry. You will collaborate closely with web developers, data analysts, and business stakeholders to build reliable, high-performance database systems that support scalable application functionality and ensure data integrity across platforms.
In this role, you’ll contribute to database design, optimization, and automation while helping deliver insights that enable data-driven decision-making. You’ll apply strong SQL development skills, data modeling principles, and performance tuning expertise to create efficient, secure, and maintainable database solutions. As you advance through levels, you’ll take on greater responsibility for architecture, data strategy, and mentoring, contributing to Brandt’s mission to deliver innovative, dependable technology solutions for customers nationwide.
Job Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain databases, stored procedures, triggers, and views.
- Analyze system requirements, client needs, and data models to architect scalable and secure database solutions.
- Collaborate closely with software development teams to integrate SQL logic into application features, ensuring seamless data flow
- Perform data analysis to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities that support both customer needs and internal business objectives.
- Design and deliver actionable, data-driven reports that provide clear insights, support decision-making, and align with business objectives.
- Implement data fixes and enhancements to ensure accuracy, reliability, and responsiveness to customer and internal requests.
- Create and maintain technical documentation.
- Troubleshoot database performance issues, including query optimization and indexing strategies.
- Participate in code reviews, provide technical guidance, and support cross-functional collaboration with software and infrastructure teams.
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security across databases.
Job Competencies
- Previous experience as a SQL Database Developer is helpful as it aligns with role level.
- Experience supporting a live functional application,
- Expertise in SQL (e.g., T-SQL, PL/SQL) and familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server or similar platforms.
- Experience with MySQL (preferred but not required)
- Strong understanding of relational database design, performance tuning, and data normalization.
- Experience with cloud-based databases (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, etc.)
- Proficiency in database tools such as RedGate, SentryOne, or comparable solutions.
- Familiarity with C# or other programming languages and experience integrating databases via APIs.
- Working knowledge of DevOps principles and CI/CD for database deployments.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think algorithmically.
- Exposure to ETL processes and data warehouse concepts
- Willingness to travel up to 2–3 days quarterly for training and on-site client engagement.
Tech Stack Requirements
- Experience in T-SQL
- Experience using SSRS to create reports
What You Will Need
- 4+ years of experience developing and maintaining SQL databases in production environments.
- Proficiency with stored procedures, triggers, and performance optimization techniques.
- Solid understanding of database security, backups, and version control principles.
- Experience collaborating with application developers to integrate database logic into software solutions.
- Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, or automated deployment for databases.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve database performance issues independently.
- Demonstrates ownership of assigned tasks and consistency in delivering quality results.
- Expertise in database design, optimization, and data warehousing or ETL frameworks.
- Experience architecting scalable database solutions for complex enterprise applications.
- Advanced skills in query performance tuning, indexing strategies, and data migration.
- Ability to translate business requirements into efficient, secure, and maintainable database models.
- Experience mentoring junior developers and guiding database best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to balance stakeholder needs with technical priorities.
Compensation & Benefits:

- The selected candidate should have the skills, qualifications, and experience consistent with a Senior I level within Brandt’s job architecture. The compensation range is $90,000.00-$115,000.00 with the final level and corresponding salary determined based on the candidate’s expertise, qualifications, and prior experience within the applicable pay band.
