Sr. Accountant - Construction/Contracting Experienced only

Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates

The incumbent will be responsible for managing and supervising the day-to-day financial operations of the company, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and timely project cost control. This role plays a critical part in supporting management with financial insights, cash flow management, and project profitability analysis within the construction and contracting environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Accounting & Reporting

Prepare, review, and finalize monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and company policies.

Maintain general ledger accounts and ensure accurate postings for all transactions.

Supervise the reconciliation of bank accounts, supplier ledgers, and customer accounts.

Manage month-end and year-end closing processes with accuracy and timeliness.

2. Project Accounting & Cost Control

Monitor project costs, revenue recognition, and margins against budgets and forecasts.

Review project progress billing, retention, variation orders, and subcontractor payments.

Coordinate with Project Managers and Quantity Surveyors for cost verification and work progress validation.

Track and control material, labor, and overhead costs against project budgets to identify variances.

3. Accounts Payable & Receivable

Oversee vendor invoice verification, approvals, and payments as per contract terms.

Manage receivables and follow up with clients for timely collection of dues and retention release.

Prepare aging reports and ensure proper credit control measures.

4. Payroll & Employee Settlements

Review and process payroll for site and office staff in coordination with HR.

Account for staff advances, overtime, leave encashment, and end-of-service benefits in compliance with labor laws.

5. Budgeting & Forecasting

Assist in preparing annual budgets, project cost estimates, and financial forecasts.

Analyze actual performance against budgets and provide variance analysis with recommendations.

6. Compliance & Audit

Ensure compliance with VAT, WPS, and other statutory reporting requirements.

Liaise with external auditors for annual audits and provide required schedules and reconciliations.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal control policies.

7. Cash Flow & Treasury Management

Monitor daily cash flow and fund requirements for projects and operations.

Manage payments, bank facilities, and ensure optimal utilization of credit lines and guarantees.

Prepare cash flow forecasts and coordinate with management for funding needs.

8. Process Improvement & ERP Systems

Support the implementation and maintenance of ERP/accounting systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, QuickBooks, Tally, etc.).

Develop and streamline accounting procedures to enhance efficiency and internal controls.

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce (Master’s preferred).

Professional qualification (CA, ACCA, CPA, CMA, or equivalent) preferred.

Minimum 5–8 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in the construction or contracting sector.

Strong knowledge of project accounting, cost control, and percentage-of-completion (POC) revenue recognition.

Hands-on experience with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.

Familiarity with UAE VAT and local accounting practices (if applicable).

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: AED5,000.00 - AED7,000.00 per month
