Sr. Commissioning Field Engineer, HVAC

What to Expect

Tesla's Cell Infrastructure team is looking for an experienced Sr. Commissioning Field Engineer, HVAC to lead a team through scoping, scheduling, execution, and close out of projects. This role specializes in the commissioning of wet & dry mechanical systems, balancing (TAB), associated controls, and envelope integrity. The ideal candidate will have a strong field intensive background in commissioning pre-functional and functional checks, TAB, retro-commissioning, and envelope integrity testing. The candidate will coordinate and perform TAB for mechanical systems. Experience performing these activities in cleanroom environments such as semiconductor, pharmaceutical, and healthcare facilities is preferred. In this role you will be responsible for planning and execution of commissioning projects, scheduling, budgeting, risk management, procurement coordination, arranging new contracts, leading and training balancing technicians in addition to supporting the team to ensure deliverables are met. It requires technical MEP expertise, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to effectively support multiple teams. This role has a travel expectancy of 25%.


What You'll Do
  • Lead assigned commissioning projects and perform all phases through design reviews, scoping, scheduling, execution, and turnover
  • Perform design reviews
  • Develop commissioning plans, checklists, balancing reports, schedule, budget, and other technical documents related to mechanical commissioning
  • Conduct site walks, equipment inspections, witness testing, and maintain a punchlist
  • Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT). Coordinate and perform Site Acceptance Tests (SAT)
  • Establish a risk tracking process and drive the team and stakeholders to action risks to acceptable levels. Maintain communications regarding schedule, budget, and progress updates with key stakeholders
  • Support the Operations and Commissioning team in managing various tools such as completions management software, Management of Change, work requests and others

What You'll Bring
  • 10+ years of Mechanical equipment expertise with a minimum of 7 years of experience performing mechanical commissioning and balancing (TAB)
  • Experience working in cleanroom, biomedical research, or similar environments
  • TAB certification by an accredited body (NEBB, AABC, TABB) is preferred
  • Technical expertise with air handlers, fans, dehumidification, chilled water plants, heating plants, environmental controls, and other HVAC systems
  • Competent understanding of design drawings, P&ID’s, SOW’s, SOO’s. Ability to use a building management system (BMS) to control equipment and diagnose operating issues
  • Ability to operate personal lift devices and work at heights
  • Strong background in all aspects of scope management including, scheduling, budgeting, and documentation

Expected Compensation
$112,000 - $288,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
