JOB SUMMARY

The Sr. Insurance Specialist is responsible for At Home General Liability, Property, Rental Car and Cargo claims - including but not limited to reporting, claims management, investigation, identification of risk transfer opportunities, collaboration for litigation, and collaboration for reserves and settlement approval. The Sr. Insurance Specialist ensures all required components for incident reports are collected including data fields, store investigations and root cause analysis, surveillance, photos, and secured evidence - in accordance with company policies and procedures. As a key member of the Legal team, the Sr. Claims Specialist reports to the Manager of Legal Affairs and will work closely with the Store and DC Management, Human Resources, , Loss Prevention, Facilities, Real Estate, Merchants, Quality Compliance and other partners as necessary. This position will also serve as a key resource for Corporate, the Stores and DC’s and liaison with the Third Party Administrator, Insurance Brokers and Carriers to manage claims and insurance needs accordingly. The individual will be cross trained to support the Claims Team for Surety Bonds, Certificates of Insurance, Workers’ Compensation and perform other tasks as needed. This individual will be responsible for working collaboratively to ensure best in class Claims and Insurance service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ensure General Liability, Property, Rental Car and Cargo claims for all At Home locations are filed timely and managed

  • Review incident reports for complete and detailed information, photos, and evidence is secured per protocol.

  • Assist in capturing surveillance of reported incidents

  • Work directly with Insurance Adjusters, our Insurance Broker, our Internal Legal Team, assigned Attorneys, and Store and DC Management to achieve favorable claim outcomes and closure

  • Review claims for root cause and trends to collaborate with pertinent internal parties so to address unsafe practices and/or unsafe product

  • Collaborate with our Insurance Adjusters and our Outside Counsel for litigated claims

  • Document and maintain all litigated GL and Property claim activities on the shared litigation tracking spreadsheet, Recap Report and Drive folders

  • Subrogate for property damages to At Home stores

  • Provide Certificate of Insurance backup

  • Review and process invoices

  • Assist with collection of data for insurance renewals

  • Keep & manage General Liability Claims Database and files

  • Perform Special Projects as Needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Risk Management and Insurance or at least seven years’ equivalent work experience
  • Risk Management and Insurance experience required
  • Workers’ Compensation experience is a plus
  • Strong understanding of claim processes, values, and terminology
  • Ability to identify risk transfer opportunities
  • Understanding of insurance language for leases, agreements, contracts, and Certificates of Insurance
  • Ability to engage with attorneys, adjusters, and all levels of operations
  • Must be detail oriented and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment and collaborate with other partners as needed.
  • Deadline driven, organized individual able to handle multiple tasks while working independently or as part of a team
  • Excellent analytical and proven problem-solving skills
  • A positive and friendly demeanor with a can-do attitude
  • Good customer service skills
  • Microsoft Office required: advanced Excel knowledge preferred
