Overview:
The Sr. Manager Engineering – Distribution Lines provides leadership and accountability for Distribution Line Engineering and Design Support, ensuring engineering deliverables align with customer commitments, portfolio execution, and system reliability goals. This role sets engineering priorities, oversees schedules and resource assignments, and coordinates work across internal teams and external engineering partners.
As the primary engineering interface with stakeholders, customers, and contractors, the Sr. Manager Engineering is responsible for talent management, performance oversight, and compliance with safety, quality, and cost objectives. The position includes direct supervision, coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance of staff, along with accountability for the technical quality and continuous improvement of the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the organization and prioritization of activities of the engineering group in the region to meet expected completion dates for all design work. Sets priorities to ensure task completion and coordinates work activities with other supervisors and managers, acting as a liaison with other sections or departments.
- Evaluate subordinates for the purpose of developing organizational talent and build expertise in areas required by the engineering group. Develop leadership skills and coordinate training aspects for self and group members, management and BU. Assures that training that will facilitate development is made available to the staff.
- Work with other sections/departments on cross-functional technical and business teams, working groups or improvement committees to achieve the goals and objectives of the department and/or Company.
- Develop and implement changes in methods and processes in the engineering group that support department objectives of service to customers, reliability or cost effectiveness. Review, revise and communicate Department/Section/Group procedures in support of technical and administrative improvement initiatives.
- Supervise, direct, and provide guidance to 3 to 5 engineering supervisors, 4 to 8 Engineers, 12 to 20 Distribution Technicians, 2 to 4 Technical Clerks and 3 to 5 Right of Way Agents. Provide guidance and oversight of contract design resources. Provide guidance and oversight of interns. This position reports to the Regional Director. Conduct performance assessments and salary reviews for assigned staff. Interview and recommend candidates for employment or responsible behavior policies.
- Analyze technical and business plans, design proposals, projects or strategies and provide results and/or recommendations in support of department objectives. Develops budgets and forecasts.
- Develops and reinforces a strong safety culture within the work group through daily leadership, communication and commitment to the safety and human performance initiatives that support the reduction of safety events.
- Develops and maintains positive working relationships with customers, contractors, municipalities, and distribution operations staff to assure the smooth and timely flow of work that meets the expectations for work completion.
- Serve in a leadership role on an on-call roster for emergency response for significant outage events, safety events, or other issues that require similar attention.
- If applicable, in-person supervision of employees to ensure compliance with FLSA wage and hour issues as well as to monitor compliance with safety rules.
• May be assigned an Electric Utilities emergency and storm role. This is a special assignment that comes into play during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service. • This role may necessitate the need to work after-hours, outside of your normal schedule.

Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's Degree ABET Accredited Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology
2. 12+ years in engineering experience, or a master’s degree in engineering plus 10 years of engineering experience, or a PhD in Engineering plus 9 years of engineering experience. Utility system operator experience will be counted as engineering experience for this position.
