Position Purpose:
The Senior Manager of Procurement is responsible for developing and executing strategic plans that drive financial performance, with a strong focus on cost reduction and cost avoidance. This role continuously evaluates opportunities across assigned commodities and categories, and is accountable for delivering against key department goals and metrics.
This leader oversees all contractual agreements and ensures compliance with purchase-to-pay processes and accounting controls. In close partnership with cross-functional teams—including HR, Legal, Finance, and Marketing—they help support and drive initiatives across the organization. This role also manages a significant portfolio, with responsibility for $250M–$1B in annual spend.
Key Responsibilities:
20% Strategic planning and opportunity assessment for key sourcing categories across entire enterprise. Set the strategic vision and goals and ensure execution of all common procurement strategies including supplier management, contract management, common procurement tools, and reporting.
10% Support the centralized procurement function responsible for consolidated purchasing of goods and services (e.g., fixed/capital assets, leased assets, services, supplies, travel, etc.) that support the entire organization, while continuously identifying and implementing cost saving/containment ideas
15% Lead negotiations for products and services within the assigned categories ensuring THD's specifications and quality for the best value are met.
5% Partner with process improvement organization to develop the foundation for cost out and cost avoidance metrics.
20% Develops and supports a strategic alliance with business partners. Participates in cross-functional activities focused on solving business issues and enhancing our competitive advantage.
25% Motivate people to give their best efforts by goal setting, coaching and communicating performance expectations, offering recognition and holding people accountable for results. Accurately assesses the strengths and weaknesses of associates and gives timely and constructive feedback. Participate in the selection and performance evaluation of the staff.
Assign projects and monitor progress relating to strategic sourcing activities.
Direct Manager/Direct Reports:
Typically reports to COE Leader/Director of Procurement
Accountable for direct supervision of the work activities of others. In addition to personnel issues - including selection, termination, performance appraisal and professional development of subordinates.
Travel Requirements:
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Physical Requirements:
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Working Conditions:
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
MBA, JD or Master’s degree is a plus
CPM or CPSM certification is a plus
Proven negotiation skills
Experience managing >$250M category or portfolio spend
Demonstrated success influencing VP-level stakeholders
Proven track record delivering multi-year-sourcing strategies
Experience leading organizational change or transformation initiatives
Strong financial acumen (NPV, TCO, should-cost modeling)
Sourcing and Negotiation experience in the Legal, Finance, HR and Marketing a plus
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Strategic Sourcing role with increasing levels of responsibility
Be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and prioritize duties to meet deadlines with limited supervision
Effective influencing and consensus-building skills
Supervisory or Team Lead experience
Minimum Education:
The knowledge, skills and abilities are typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
Preferred Education:
MBA, JD or Master’s degree is a plus

Competencies:
Strong analytical and administrative skills and superb negotiation skills to interface with suppliers and internal management
Strong communication skills, both oral and written
Must be a known expert in the category or commodity: Must have excellent knowledge of not only the category, but how it fits into an overall business strategy.
Ability to define vendor strategy at category level, establish vendor relationship guidelines and expectations. Make decision whether to maintain, exit or source new vendors.
Extensive experience with financial systems that support the procurement function
Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and other colleagues and demonstrate initiative, mature judgment, customer service orientation, and ability to anticipate needs of the organization
