About this role:

This is a unique opportunity for a convergent thinker with numeracy skills to make a big impact on Gartner’s clients as part of the Tech Market Insights (TMI) group within Technology & Service Provider (TSP) practice.

As a Market Research Specialist, you will be involved in developing quantitative research for our Technology Service Provider clients to help them understand growth opportunities, technology trends and market dynamics in the software markets.

What you will do:

  • Lead market research and analysis: Drive the creation of Gartner Market Share reports by conducting in-depth analysis of IT vendors’ revenues, business models, product portfolios and market trends.
  • Revenue estimation: Apply and refine Gartner’s estimation methodologies, leading the modeling of vendor revenues at detailed segment levels. Ensure quality and accuracy of geographic and segment splits in market share estimates.
  • Data stewardship: Ensure the completeness, accuracy and organization of internal and external data assets. Maintain up-to-date product/vendor mappings and contribute to ongoing enhancements of data quality and usability.
  • Insight generation and thought leadership: Execute analyses using Excel, Power BI or similar tools to uncover actionable insights. Develop and present position statements and market narratives, supported by robust data and market knowledge.
  • Process improvement and automation: Support process improvement initiatives, identifying and implementing opportunities for automation and increased efficiency across research and publication workflows.
  • Stakeholder collaboration: Operate as the lead market share expert for your assigned markets. Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to ensure the right vendor coverage and timely execution of segmentation decisions. Facilitate peer reviews, present outputs, and proactively gather feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  • Strategic contribution: Support and contribute to the development of market share analysis, market forecasts, and competitive analysis deliverables. Provide business acumen and supply-side context to quarterly reviews and forecast storyline development.

What you will need:

Professional qualifications and experience

  • BE/B.Tech + MBA with 2+ years of work experience, or
  • Graduate + MBA from leading Tier I & II - B-schools, or
  • Post-graduates with IT, Maths, Statistics, Finance and Economics background (M.Sc./MBA/M.A. Economics/M.Com)
  • Experience in research and interest in IT markets is a plus

Key attributes

  • Highly numerate with excellent critical thinking skills. Must be able to quickly grasp and articulate the fundamentals of a market and demand & growth drivers.
  • Strong written and communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present complex findings clearly and influence decision-making.
  • Understanding of key technology and macroeconomic trends
  • Demonstrated ability to lead quality control efforts and own deliverable outputs.
  • A passion for staying ahead of market trends and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence
  • Working knowledge of databases such as Factiva, Capital IQ, Crunchbase and data visualization tools (Power BI, advance excel etc.) is a plus
