Your involvement in sales and margin forecasts, promotional performance analysis, inventory management, and vendor relationships will play a critical role in obtaining goals while maintaining PetSmart's reputation in the market as a trusted partner to pet parents.

About the Location

Collaborative Work Environment:
At PetSmart, teamwork and connection are core to how we thrive. This role is based at our Phoenix Home Office, with an expectation of working a minimum of four days in the office each week. In a standard work week, associates may work up to one remote "flex day" (with leader approval). About the Job

The Senior Merch Corporate Planning Analyst enables data-driven merchandising decisions by developing scalable analytics solutions, forecasting models, and reporting frameworks. This role combines advanced analytics, data automation, and merchandise planning expertise to deliver insights that improve merchandising performance, operational efficiency, and strategic planning.

The position partners closely with Merchandise Planning & Allocation, Buying, Pricing, Finance, Supply Chain, Marketing, Digital, and Store Operations to translate business needs into actionable analytics and technical solutions. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical and technical skills, a deep understanding of retail performance metrics, and the ability to communicate insights clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct advanced analyses to evaluate merchandise performance, identify trends, and measure the effectiveness of strategic initiatives across sales, margin, inventory, pricing, promotions, and digital channels.
  • Develop forecasting models and analytical frameworks that support merchandise financial planning and corporate initiative planning.
  • Provide data-driven recommendations to key stakeholders to improve financial outcomes and operational efficiency.
  • Perform complex data mining and ad-hoc analysis to answer strategic business questions.
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines, datasets, and analytical tools that support merchandising insights and reporting.
  • Develop scripts, applications, and automations that streamline data workflows and improve operational processes.
  • Optimize data structures and models to support reporting, forecasting, and analytics.
  • Develop and maintain standardized dashboards, reports, and visualizations to improve visibility into business performance.
  • Translate analytical findings into clear insights and recommendations for stakeholders at multiple levels of the organization.
  • Partner cross-functionally with merchandising, finance, supply chain, marketing, and digital teams to align analytics solutions with business needs.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data quality, reporting processes, and analytical capabilities.
  • Maintain documentation for data models, workflows, and tools to ensure scalability and long-term maintainability.


Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in analytics, data engineering, merchandising analytics, or financial planning
    or 5+ years of equivalent professional experience
  • Retail industry experience preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business needs into analytical solutions
  • Advanced SQL for data querying and modeling
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, Strategy/MicroStrategy)
  • Familiarity with Python for data analysis and automation
  • Experience with Snowflake or cloud data platforms
  • Knowledge of data modeling, data governance, and data security best practices
  • Experience with Excel, PowerPoint, and analytics tools
  • Familiarity with Alteryx, Jira, Confluence, or similar platforms a plus
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence business partners
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-directed, proactive, and detail-oriented
