Sr. Product Designer - Contract, Remote (U.S.)

UpTop is seeking experienced independent Product Designers with deep expertise in UX research and UX design to join our network of contract-based partners. As a collaborator with UpTop, you’ll lead a project from research through design across a range of client engagements. We’re looking for designers who are systems thinkers, detail-obsessed, and thrive at the intersection of structure and creativity.

What You'll Do:
- Lead discovery and strategy: Facilitate workshops, client discovery sessions, and stakeholder interviews to uncover business goals, align teams, and frame problems with clarity in ambiguous contexts.
- Translate insights into strategy: Synthesize user research, market analysis, and business needs into clear design strategies, frameworks, and product direction.
- Drive end-to-end design execution: Deliver design artifacts across the full spectrum — personas, journey maps, IA, wireframes, prototypes, user flows, interaction patterns, and polished visual designs.
- Balance strategic and tactical design: Ask critical questions that shape the product vision while also executing detailed design solutions that advance business and user outcomes.
- Champion user research: Plan and conduct usability testing, A/B experiments, heuristic evaluations, and synthesis sessions to validate and iterate on design decisions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner closely with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders to define requirements, ensure feasibility, and deliver high-quality experiences.
- Communicate and influence: Confidently present design rationale and trade-offs to clients, leadership, and cross-functional partners—guiding them toward informed, user-centered outcomes.
- Apply systems thinking: Leverage mainstream design systems (Material, iOS, Android, Fluent, Bootstrap) and contribute to evolving design patterns and reusable components.
- Champion accessibility and inclusivity: Ensure designs meet accessibility standards (WCAG/ADA) and support diverse user needs across platforms and devices.

- Effective communicator who can articulate design rationale and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Builds strong partnerships with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders.
- Confident facilitator of workshops, discovery sessions, and design critiques.
- Adaptability & Resilience:
- Comfortable pivoting in response to shifting priorities, scope changes, or client feedback.
- Manages time and workload effectively under constraints of budget, scope, and deadlines.
- Maintains positivity and openness in the face of challenges, using feedback constructively.
Additional Details
- This is a contract opportunity for independent consultants (1099) who operate as registered business entities or LLCs; not a full-time employment position.
- Work is fully remote (U.S.-based only)
