1. Sourcing & Vendor Management
- Raw Material Sourcing: Identifying and vetting suppliers for specialized cosmetic ingredients (e.g., active botanicals, pigments, surfactants) and packaging (e.g., airless pumps, glass bottles).
- Supplier Audits: Ensuring vendors comply with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and ethical sourcing standards.
- Global Procurement: Navigating international markets for specific ingredients while managing import/export documentation and customs duties.
2. Quality & Regulatory Compliance
- Documentation Management: Collecting and maintaining critical safety data sheets (MSDS), Certificates of Analysis (COA), and technical specifications for every batch.
- Regulatory Alignment: Working with the R&D team to ensure all purchased materials meet local and international regulations (like the FDA or EU Cosmetic Regulation).
- Sample Evaluation: Coordinating with Quality Control to test samples before approving bulk orders.
3. Financial & Strategic Planning
- Cost Optimization: Negotiating pricing, payment terms, and lead times. In cosmetics, this often involves "hedging" or bulk-buying seasonal ingredients to avoid price spikes.
- Inventory Control: Monitoring stock levels to prevent "dead stock" (especially for ingredients with short shelf lives) while ensuring zero production downtime.
- Forecasting: Using sales trends and marketing plans to predict material needs for upcoming product launches or seasonal promotions.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- R&D Support: Sourcing innovative new materials to help the development team create trendy or "clean label" formulations.
- Production Coordination: Scheduling deliveries to align with the manufacturing timeline to minimize warehouse congestion.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Leading the transition to eco-friendly packaging or "green" chemicals as part of the brand’s environmental goals.
