Join Our Team as a Respiratory Therapist!
UPMC Lock Haven is seeking dedicated and compassionate Respiratory Therapists to join our Night Program. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a collaborative, patient-focused environment while utilizing advanced technology to deliver high-quality respiratory care.

In this role, you will provide respiratory therapy services and life support to patients with cardiopulmonary conditions under the direction of a physician. You will care for patients across all populations and service areas, making a meaningful impact every day.

Schedule & Work Expectations

  • Primarily night shift (7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.)
  • May require occasional day shift rotation (e.g., training, competencies, staffing needs)
  • Occasional weekends to support vacation coverage (subject to change based on staffing needs)
  • Holiday rotation (every other or as assigned)
  • Must maintain 36+ hours per week

Night Program Guidelines -

  • Commitment to work the majority of scheduled shifts during off-shift/night hours (8- or 12-hour shifts)
  • Eligible participants receive an additional $2.00/hour night program differential, in addition to standard shift differentials
  • Daytime hours (meetings, training, etc.) are paid at the base rate without the Night Program differential
  • Employees not enrolled in the Night Program are not eligible for the additional differential
  • New hires may transition into the Night Program following 6 months and successful completion of orientation period

Compensation & Incentives

  • Sign-On Bonus:
    • $15,000 (0–1 year experience) – 2-year commitment
    • $20,000 (1+ years experience) – 2-year commitment
  • Additional $10,000 incentive after completion of year 3 (limited-time offering)

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory therapy treatments, life support, and diagnostic services
  • Operate and manage advanced respiratory equipment (ventilators, gas delivery systems, etc.)
  • Monitor patient responses, including vital signs, ABGs, and clinical status
  • Perform pulmonary function testing and assist with procedures such as bronchoscopy
  • Respond to emergency situations, including code events and ventilated patient transport
  • Collaborate with physicians and care teams to optimize treatment plans
  • Maintain accurate patient documentation and ensure equipment functionality
  • Serve as a resource and mentor to staff and students
  • May function in a Charge/Lead role as needed

Additional Expectations

  • May be required to float between campuses based on operational needs
  • Must maintain annual competencies and active state licensure
  • BLS certification required

  • Graduate of a CoARC-accredited Respiratory Care program required
  • Associate degree required
    • In lieu of an Associate degree: 5–7 years of relevant respiratory care experience or NBRC certification may be considered (not applicable in New York)
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of respiratory care experience, including at least 1 year in critical care

Professional Requirements

  • Must obtain and maintain Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • RRTs credentialed after July 1, 2002, must maintain ongoing NBRC credentialing requirements

Professional Development

  • Completion of one approved departmental project annually
    • Project must be selected and approved within 3 months of hire

Licensure, Certifications & Clearances

Licensure (based on work location)

  • Pennsylvania: Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license required
  • Maryland: Respiratory Therapist license required
  • New York: Respiratory Therapist license and NBRC RRT credential required

Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR (AHA-compliant) required within 30 days of hire

Clearances

  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance (with renewal)
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Check (with renewal)
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance (with renewal)
