Sr. Supplier Engineer (Onsite)

Position Overview:
The Sr. Supplier Engineer is a key member of the Supplier Development Engineering group, which is part of Insulet’s Global Procurement and Supplier Development organization. Insulet manages a global supply chain and sources precision components and commodities from around the world for use in its devices. She/he will work closely with peers in Quality, Sourcing, and Lifecycle Engineering to lead and implement new capital equipment and tooling at suppliers, carry out new product introductions, execute improvement projects, resolve business-critical technical issues, and investigate and lead corrective actions in response to quality issues across the supply base.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of working with suppliers of custom precision components for use in medical devices and should have the ability to scope, budget, and lead process qualification/improvement projects at third party manufacturing sites domestically and abroad. Candidates should enjoy the factory setting and be comfortable interfacing with and influencing supplier personnel ranging from shop floor operators to leadership.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the qualification efforts at suppliers for mechanical and electro-mechanical components, aimed at landed cost and robust process capability.
  • Work with sourcing to select alternate suppliers and lead and manage the qualification of components at the suppliers
  • Facilitate cross-functional communication to gain alignment and assure project success.
  • Work with sourcing to select alternate suppliers and lead/support the onboarding and qualification of components at these suppliers.
  • Identify, justify, and implement design and process improvement opportunities within regulated tier 1 component suppliers.
  • Monitor and address day-to-day issues within Insulet’s mechanical component supply chain in support of 100% first past yield and in process yields at assembly sites.
  • Participate in product design reviews with emphasis on design for manufacture.

Education and Experience:
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing/Industrial, Plastics, Biomedical)
  • 8 years working experience

Preferred Skills and Competencies:
  • Ability to identify and implement improvements in a shop floor environment at supplier sites
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with Solidworks / Pro-E and one of SAS, JMP, or Minitab
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, including Office Project software
  • Six Sigma Process Improvement Experience/Certification desirable
  • Familiarity with cGMP practices desired
  • Outstanding team player who seeks and values diverse input to hone ideas, but who has the experience to develop strong starting proposals
  • Highly-motivated, self-starter
  • Appreciates the value of timelines and enjoys working in the focused environment that they create.

Physical Requirements (if applicable):
  • Ability to travel domestically/Internationally – 40% max; 15% typical

Additional Information:

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $89,850.00 - $134,775.00. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the primary work location in the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
