Sr UI/UX Designer (Enterprise Systems & Accessibility)

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior UI/UX Designer to support the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) eligibility systems. The role requires strong expertise in user research, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing to improve accessibility, usability, and responsiveness of enterprise systems.

The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business users, technical staff, and partners such as Code for America, to deliver intuitive, accessible, and user-centered design solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze business objectives and user requirements to identify problems, define solutions, and recommend improvements.
  • Lead user research initiatives, journey mapping, and usability testing to gain insights and optimize user experiences.
  • Develop wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies aligned with accessibility standards and branding guidelines.
  • Collaborate in agile development cycles including discovery workshops, sprint planning, and stakeholder feedback sessions.
  • Employ tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, Hotjar for prototyping and usability design.
  • Design for AI/ML Interfaces, with focus on explainable AI (XAI) and human-AI interaction.
  • Support complex business logic and regulatory requirements in government, healthcare, or financial domains.
  • Create data visualizations to present complex insights in clear, usable formats.
  • Ensure compliance with WCAG accessibility guidelines and best practices.
  • Document data flows, mappings, transformation logic, and design standards for enterprise systems.
  • Advocate for user-centered design principles, ensuring solutions align with business goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4+ years of hands-on UI/UX design experience for enterprise systems.
  • Strong proficiency with Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch (wireframing, prototyping, and design).
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams.
  • Proven experience applying UX principles (hierarchy, contrast, alignment, responsive and accessible design).
  • Experience creating wireframes and prototypes supporting agile cycles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience designing graphical diagrams, workflows, and system architecture visuals.
  • 3+ years facilitating design workshops and feedback sessions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, HCI, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong multitasking skills across concurrent design streams.
  • Experience with eligibility determination systems or rule-based, data-intensive applications.

Work Environment

  • Hybrid role: 3 days onsite (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays) / 2 days remote.
  • Local Austin, TX candidates only – relocation is not supported.
  • Subject to change per manager’s direction.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $57.46 - $69.20 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
