Sample Handling and Preparation
- Collection: Receiving, collecting, and labeling samples such as blood, tissue, and other substances.
- Processing: Preparing samples for analysis, which may involve preparing solutions or cultures.
Testing and Analysis
- Tests: Performing various laboratory tests and experiments on samples using scientific instruments.
- Analysis: Analyzing data and interpreting test results to draw conclusions and verify or reject hypotheses.
- Data Recording: Documenting observations, experimental procedures, and results in a clear, organized manner.
Equipment and Maintenance
- Operation: Operating specialized lab equipment like microscopes and cell counters.
- Calibration & Maintenance: Regularly calibrating, cleaning, and maintaining laboratory equipment to ensure its accuracy and proper functioning.
Quality and Safety Compliance
- Quality Control: Ensuring quality control throughout the testing process and adhering to laboratory standards and policies.
- Safety: Following all relevant laboratory safety standards, including handling hazardous materials, and performing risk assessments.
Documentation and Communication
- Record-Keeping: Maintaining accurate records of tests, procedures, and results, often logging them into computer systems or patients' medical records.
- Reporting: Communicating findings and presenting data and results to senior staff, scientists, and other professionals.
Other Responsibilities
- Inventory Management: Tracking and managing laboratory supplies and reagents.
- Technical Support: Providing technical support to scientists and other laboratory users.
- Learning: Staying updated with relevant scientific and technical developments in the field.
