POSITION SUMMARY
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is looking for a Stadium & Venue Maintenance and Operations Technician to join our team! This position will be based at American Legion Memorial Stadium and the Mecklenburg County Sportsplex and will assist the Maintenance Supervisor and Facility Managers with the preparation and maintenance of these facilities. The selected candidate will be responsible for maintenance and upkeep of the athletic fields, field layout, painting of fields and logos, set-up and breakdown of the facility for events, and other general upkeep at the facilities. The preferred candidate will possess knowledge of field, turf grass management, agronomy, and athletic ground care maintenance and prevention. This full-time position will be required to work evenings, rotating weekends, and holidays based on the event schedule.
Facility Information: American Legion Memorial Stadium is a newly renovated, 10,000 capacity, multi-purpose stadium and is home to the Charlotte Independence, Anthem RC, and Carolina Ascent FC. The Sportsplex has nine synthetic turf multi-purpose fields, two grass multi-purpose fields and a grass 4,000-seat stadium and hosts a variety of local, regional, and national events ranging from youth and high school to college and professional sports year-round.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid NC Pesticide Applicator’s License
- Class A CDL
- Extensive experience in athletic field and/or golf course preparation
- Turf, Ground, or Field related certifications
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Perform setup, breakdown and cleaning for events including services to restrooms and general park maintenance
- Perform routine and non-routine cleaning services to restrooms and rental facilities
- Remove limbs and debris; blows leaves off sidewalks and greenways; clears mud and water from greenway tunnels after storms, and mow and trim ballfields
- Assist with Natural Grass Cultural Practices including but not limited to: Fertilization, Aerification, Verticutting, Topdressing, Irrigation Repairs and Sod Replacement/Renovation.
- Assist in performing synthetic turf field maintenance including grooming, debris removal, paint removal, and seam repairs.
- Assist in manual labor such as brick laying, pipe laying, painting, carpentry and other construction tasks
- Layout measurements and line athletic fields with both manual and robot painters
- Operate Reel and Rotary mowers, Tractors, Skid Steers, Loaders, string trimmers, edgers, chainsaws, brush cutter, power washers, UTVs, litter vacuum, and other equipment used in facility maintenance, landscaping, and Athletic Field Maintenance.
- Open park gates and remove trash
- Assist repair technicians in duties
- May serve as a lead on a small work crew, community service workers, volunteers and/or part-timers
- May receive, sort, and package materials
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience related to area of assignment
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?: N/A
Computer Skills: General knowledge of applicable computer programs
Licenses and Certifications: Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges. Depending on area of assignment- may require Class A or Class B CDL
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge:- Light equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction
- Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to safe operation of this equipment
- Safe work practices and hazards associated with work
- Use of the tools, equipment, supplies, and methods used in the maintenance activities
Skills:- Filling out daily work sheets and other required forms
- Light trucks, small tractors, mowers and similar automotive equipment
