The Position
Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position is a Staff II, Associate Engineer underfill Professional Engineer located in the Dam Safety section of the Nevada Division of Water Resources in Carson City, Nevada. Water rights duties may be involved in this role. The job requires inspections of existing dams across Nevada and assisting in plan review and permitting process for new dams, alterations to existing dams, and decommissioning of dams. The inspection of dams requires up to up to 10-12 weeks per year of fieldwork, as well as large amounts of data management. The permitting of new dams will require an in-depth knowledge of a broad range of civil engineering disciplines, as well as complex construction techniques. Other duties include the operation and maintenance of South Fork Dam, project management including project management, breach inundation mapping, hydraulics and hydrology analysis, geotechnical analysis, grant management, etc. This position is also responsible for managing and reviewing the work of junior staff members assisting in the duties described above.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or closely related engineering field and two years of professional engineering experience; OR Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern, and two years of professional engineering experience in civil engineering or closely related engineering field; OR two years of experience as a Staff I, Associate Engineer or Supervisor I, Associate Engineer in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

This position requires travel to remote locations throughout the State, often with overnight stays.

A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Additional Position Criteria

Related course work in construction, geotechnical engineering, fluid dynamics, Hydrology, and structural engineering.
