General Ledger Maintenance:

Position Summary:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the daily accounting operations of the company, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, preparing financial statements, and assisting with audits. This role typically requires strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

General Ledger Maintenance:

  • Post journal entries to the general ledger.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
  • Reconcile and balance accounts on a monthly basis and intercompany accounts on a regular basis.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in financial data.

Accounting Operations:

  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial schedules to support the month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Maintain and analyze the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and intercompany accounts on a regular basis.

Financial Reporting & Analysis:

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Prepare and post monthly accruals and adjustments.
  • Generate and analyze financial data and reports to ensure completeness and accuracy.

Compliance & Internal Controls:

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable tax regulations.
  • Support external and internal audits by preparing schedules and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Help maintain and improve internal controls, policies, and procedures to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

Special Projects:

  • Participate in system upgrades, process improvement initiatives, and cross-functional projects to optimize financial operations.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support business objectives and address accounting-related questions or issues.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 1-3 years of accounting experience.
  • Experience in construction industry, private lending, such as servicing loans which includes payment collections, processing payments, escrow management, foreclosure management, delinquency and default management.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Proven experience as a staff accountant or in a similar role.
  • Private lending experience a plus.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAGE, SAP, Microsoft Excel).
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of tax laws and regulations is a plus.

Working Conditions:

  • May require extended hours during peak periods (e.g., financial closings or audits).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
