Staff Accountant

Position Summary

A.C.T. Services is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Staff Accountant to join our growing team in Indianapolis. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys meaningful hands-on work, values accuracy, and wants to contribute to a collaborative, service-focused organization. In this role, you will support core accounting operations, help maintain accurate financial records, assist with reporting and close processes, and contribute to efficient day-to-day finance activities.

The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, trustworthy, and comfortable managing recurring responsibilities in a professional, fast-paced environment. This position is primarily in person at our Indianapolis office, which supports collaboration, training, and team connection; limited remote flexibility may be available after a successful onboarding period

Key Responsibilities

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for a variety of accounting and administrative finance duties, including:

  • Maintain accurate general ledger records and assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare and post journal entries as needed.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit card accounts, balance sheet accounts, and other financial records.
  • Assist with accounts payable, including invoice review, coding, vendor records, payment preparation, and issue resolution.
  • Assist with accounts receivable, including customer invoicing, payment posting, account follow-up, and aging review.
  • Review financial transactions for accuracy, proper documentation, and appropriate account classification.
  • Support payroll-related accounting entries and reconciliations, as needed.
  • Assist with preparing internal financial reports, schedules, and account analyses.
  • Maintain organized accounting files, records, and supporting documentation.
  • Help monitor company expenses and ensure compliance with internal procedures.
  • Assist with sales tax, use tax, or other regulatory filings, where applicable.
  • Support audits, tax preparation, and external accountant requests by gathering documentation and reports.
  • Identify discrepancies or process issues and communicate them promptly to management.
  • Maintain confidentiality of company, employee, vendor, and customer financial information.
  • Perform other accounting, finance, and administrative duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Prior accounting and bookkeeping experience required; experience level may vary based on education and skill set.
  • Working knowledge of general accounting principles.
  • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and general ledger activity.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Microsoft 365, Excel and general office software.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage recurring tasks.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Must be able to work locally and reliably report to the company’s office during scheduled work hours. Occasional remote work may be available after successful completion of probationary period.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Three or more years of accounting experience.
  • Experience in a service-based business, construction, real estate, logistics, professional services, or related industry.
  • Familiarity with payroll accounting, sales tax, inventory, job costing, or project-based accounting.
  • Intermediate Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and data review.
  • Experience assisting with month-end close and financial statement preparation.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, local position based at A.C.T. Services’ office in Indianapolis, IN. The role will primarily be performed in a professional office environment during regular business hours. Occasional overtime may be required during month-end close, year-end close, audits, or other high-volume periods.

Physical Requirements

This position generally requires the ability to:

  • Sit or work at a desk for extended periods.
  • Use a computer, keyboard, phone, and standard office equipment.
  • Review documents and financial information with accuracy.
  • Occasionally lift or move office files, boxes, or supplies up to [10–25 pounds], as needed.

Pay: $57,300.00 - $69,000.00 per year
