Staff Accountant

We are seeking a hands-on Accountant to own the day-to-day accounting cycle and produce timely, accurate job cost reporting for our manufacturing operation. This role covers accounts payable and receivable, general ledger and month-end close, and the preparation of weekly job cost reports tracked by lot number and job code. The ideal candidate is comfortable in a batch-production environment, has a strong grasp of cost accounting, and can turn production and purchasing data into clear margin analysis that informs operational and pricing decisions.

Key ResponsibilitiesAccounts Payable & Receivable

  • Process vendor invoices, match to purchase orders and receiving documents, and manage the payment cycle.
  • Generate customer invoices, apply cash receipts, and manage collections and aging follow-up.
  • Reconcile AP and AR sub-ledgers to the general ledger and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain vendor and customer master data, including terms, tax status, and W-9 records.

General Accounting

  • Record journal entries and maintain the general ledger across all accounts.
  • Perform month-end and year-end close, including accruals, prepaids, and account reconciliations.
  • Reconcile bank and credit card accounts and investigate variances.
  • Support the preparation of financial statements and management reporting.
  • Assist with audits, tax filings, and internal control documentation.

Job Cost Reporting & Margin Analysis

  • Prepare weekly job cost reports tracking material, labor, and overhead by lot number and job code.
  • Reconcile actual production costs to standards and bills of material, investigating variances.
  • Tie job costs to batch records and production output to ensure accurate cost capture per lot.
  • Analyze gross margin and profitability by job, product, and customer; flag underperforming jobs.
  • Partner with operations and purchasing to validate cost inputs and improve data accuracy.
  • Maintain and improve the costing model and reporting templates as products and processes change.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience covering AP, AR, and general ledger.
  • Demonstrated experience with cost or job costing accounting, ideally in manufacturing.
  • Strong Excel skills (lookups, pivot tables, formula-driven models) and ERP/accounting software proficiency.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and month-end close processes.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to meet recurring weekly and monthly deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a manufacturing, batch-production, or regulated environment (life sciences, pharma, food, or chemical).
  • Familiarity with standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory/WIP accounting.
  • Experience tying financial data to batch records or production lot tracking.
  • CPA, CMA, or progress toward certification.

What Success Looks Like

  • AP and AR are current, clean, and reconciled every month.
  • Month-end close is completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Weekly job cost reports are delivered on time, by lot and job code, and trusted by management.
  • Margin analysis surfaces actionable insight on job and product profitability.
