About the Staff Accountant Role

The staff accountant is responsible for performing accurate and timely full cycle accounting tasks for Thrive Business Services using QuickBooks Online and Karbon. To be successful in this role, the staff accountant must be service oriented with strong attention to detail and communication skills.

What does a Staff Accountant at Thrive do?

  • Responsible for performing efficient and accurate full cycle accounting work, which may include data entry, maintaining records, assisting with accounts receivable and accounts payable, and performing reconciliations for a diverse group of clients. Process payroll for clients as needed
  • Responsible for working in tandem with junior staff members by reviewing financials, verifying and ensuring financial data is entered correctly and accurately; resolving any accounting issues and answering their questions related to the clients they are working on
  • Respond to all team member questions and client requests within 1 business day.
  • Communicate with clients on a regular basis via phone, emails, and video conferencing; explain financial reports and provide analysis and feedback as appropriate.
  • Assist complex and large clients that have specialized accounting needs
  • Generate accounting and financial reports including but not limited to Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow Statements, A/R and A/P and other reports as requested
  • Prepare and analyze financial management reports ie cash flow forecasts, budgets vs actual, and other cash management reports; adhering to deadlines per client
  • Perform administrative duties including keeping notes, records, and completing paperwork
  • Represent company values including connection, collaboration, efficiency, and security on a daily basis
  • Participate in team meetings and stay current with trainings
  • Update and improve processes and SOPs as needed
  • Learn new software programs and maintain certifications

  • Mathematical Reasoning - Highly skilled in math, accounting and financial processes. Have the ability to choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem
  • Computer Skills – Must be proficient in using common programs such as Excel, G-Suite, and QuickBooks Online
  • Software savvy - must be someone who likes learning new software programs
  • Communication – Must be able to speak, read, and write in English so others understand the intended outcome of the communication
  • Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
  • Prioritization – Must be able to adjust to changing priorities and complete multiple projects despite interruptions
  • Troubleshooting - Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it
  • Deductive Reasoning - The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense
  • Must be able to work independently or as part of a team while enhancing personal and departmental performance
  • Requires initiative and the ability to analyze complex accounting documents to improve processes and reporting where results have monetary impact

Work Environment

  • Remote work with set hours during regular business hours
  • Frequent use of computer, multiple monitors, keyboard, and mouse
  • Prolonged periods of time in a stationary position

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting preferred and/or certified bookkeeper depending on experience
  • Minimum of three years of experience handling full cycle bookkeeping
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online; QBO Certified
  • Advanced Excel knowledge; ability to prepare pivot tables, v-lookups, macros, & queries
  • Prior experience with Karbon, Ramp, Bill.com and Clockwork a plus
  • Financial analysis and budgeting experience
  • Prior experience working for a CPA firm a plus
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $72,000.00 per year
