Staff Accountant II

Position Summary
The Staff Accountant II assists the Business Administrator in the day-to-day management of the District's fiscal operations. Responsibilities include preparing, and maintaining a complete and accurate set of financial records; preparing general ledger adjustments and reconciliations; ensuring accurate and timely financial and statistical reporting through the District's financial management system; and reviewing general ledger information for accuracy and audit readiness.

Qualifications
1. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties of the position.
2. Experience with accounts payable processing, preparation, and reporting.
3. Working knowledge of payroll processing, payroll tax filings, and the New Hampshire Retirement System.
4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
5. Experience with integrated financial or business management software systems.
6. Experience with grant financial management processes preferred.
7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision.
8. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
9. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

Grant Management

  • Develop and maintain grant budgets within the District's financial system.
  • Prepare required monthly financial reports for the Department of Education, as assigned.
  • Calculate and process indirect cost allocations.
  • Prepare and present grant financial reports to program/project managers.

Student Activity Accounts

  • Oversee student activity accounts for individual schools.
  • Review activity transactions and balances monthly.
  • Assist with preparation for the annual student activities audit.

Financial Operations

  • Perform monthly cash reconciliations for the General Fund, Federal Funds, Food Service Fund, and Student Activity Funds.
  • Assist with fiscal year-end and calendar year-end closing processes.
  • Support annual financial audit activities and documentation requests.
  • Participate in business office initiatives and special projects as assigned.

Accounts Payable / Purchasing / Payroll Support

  • Maintain expert knowledge of accounts payable software and procedures to provide backup support.
  • Support purchasing card administration and provide guidance and backup coverage for accounts payable functions.
  • Provide support and oversight for payroll functions as assigned.

General

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Business Administrator or designee.

Physical Requirements

  • Work involves a combination of sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Ability to sit at a workstation and use a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasionally lift or carry items up to 15 pounds.
  • Frequent bending and reaching; occasional squatting, kneeling, or reaching above shoulder level.

Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000 commensurate with experience

Full time, year round, 7.5 hours a day/260 days per year
