The position is located on Oahu (Downtown Honolulu).

The State Recruiting Office will refer all inquiries regarding the exempt position to the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs.
The function of this organizational unit is to support the Division of Financial Institutions (Division) overall supervisory program including chartering, licensing, supervising and examining all industries within the jurisdiction of the division. The institutions the Division regulates include financial institutions (e.g. banks, savings banks, trust companies, financial services loan companies, credit unions), escrow depository companies, money transmitters, mortgage servicers, mortgage loan originators and mortgage loan originators companies.
The position will be responsible for providing legal services to the Division. In general, the position assists the Division in its review and analysis of pending matters, and recommends appropriate action for the Division's consideration. The position assists in the review and drafting of rules and regulations regarding supervision and regulation of industries within the jurisdiction of the Division. The position assists in the preparation of legislative proposals relating to the Division.
Education: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree.
Experience: Three (3) years experience as a licensed attorney, preferably including practice in industry or regulatory work of an industry supervised by the Division.
Knowledge: Law (procedural and substantive); legal research methods; legal writing; interviewing and investigative techniques; laws, rules, regulations, and procedures applicable to industries supervised by the Division of Financial Institutions; and management.
Skills/Abilities: Deal with large number of variables and determine specific course of action; organize and interpret extensive legal material in books, journals, or legal documents; communicate verbally regarding legal issues; handle sensitive contacts with government officials, adverse parties and/or general public; and resolve complaints from consumers, applicants, licensees, and/or government officials.
Requirement: Licensed to practice law in the State of Hawaii.
Legal Authorization to Work Requirement: The State of Hawaii requires that all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, national, or permanent resident of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States
The position is exempt from the civil service and considered temporary in nature. Therefore, if you are appointed to the position, your employment will be considered to be "at will," which means that you may be discharged from your employment at the prerogative of the department head or designee at any time.
