Staff Attorney

Job Announcement

The Youth Law Center in Des Moines, Iowa is accepting applications for the full-time position of staff attorney. The Youth Law Center is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides legal services to youth in the courts of central Iowa, primarily in Polk County.

Staff attorneys will work on legal matters impacting children in central Iowa, and will represent youth in legal matters including but not limited to: Child in Need of Assistance Actions (Child Welfare), juvenile justice, Involuntary Mental Health and Substance Abuse Committals, Minor Guardianships and Emancipations. Staff attorneys will also assist with policy work, trainings and other activities to support the goals of the Youth Law Center. Staff attorneys work a minimum of forty hours per week, but staff attorneys will need to work evenings and weekends to visit with children and families in their homes.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A juris doctorate degree is required
• Admission to Iowa Bar required.
• Experience litigating juvenile law cases in Iowa preferred.

Compensation:

• Salary will be based upon applicant’s experience
