This posting is for the State of Hawaii, Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Insurance Division, Insurance Fraud Investigation Branch.
The position is located on Oahu (Downtown Honolulu).

Duties Summary
The function of this organizational branch is to conduct criminal fraud investigations involving insurance. The Fraud Branch will be responsible for intake and evaluation of criminal cases and inquiries relating to the functions of the branch on a statewide basis. the branch will also be responsible for prosecuting cases within their jurisdiction.
The primary purpose of the subject position is to serve as staff attorney in the Fraud Branch and to represent the Insurance Division in the prosecution of these cases. The subject position assists investigators and staff in screening potential cases, confers on criminal charges and case analysis, and prosecutes cases to their conclusion, including trial and appeal. The subject position also assists in public awareness of insurance fraud issues through presentations or speaking engagements and assists in legislative issues including drafting and/or monitoring related bills and providing testimony when necessary.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Education: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree.
License: An attorney of good standing, licensed to practice in the State of Hawaii.
Experience: Practiced as an attorney for at least five (5) years with emphasis in white collar criminal prosecution, including preparation of pleadings, motions, search warrants, or other court documents and regular court appearance.
Knowledge: Understanding of general legal principles; statutory and case law; and criminal procedure.
Skills/Abilities: Ability to research substantive legal issues and interpret statutes and analyze information for probative value. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Legal Authorization to Work Requirement: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

This position is exempt from the civil service and considered temporary in nature. Therefore, if you are appointed to the position, your employment will be considered to be "at will," which means that you may be discharged from your employment at the prerogative of the department head or designee at any time.
