Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Staff Engineer Aeronautical Product Architect to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Vehicle Management System organization located in Rancho Bernardo, CA.
Overview:
In this role, you will be responsible for defining a comprehensive system architecture. This includes critical decisions regarding the selection and sizing of CPUs, FPGAs, and memory; you will also determine the design of the internal and external bus topology. Working alongside the mechanical and hardware leads, you will drive the design of power-supplies and the development of thermal management strategies while establishing effective dataflow, clocking methodologies, and a BIT philosophy. By conducting rigorous trade studies, you will steer part selection to meet performance, configuration, environmental, and lifecycle requirements, while identifying modular subsystems for potential reuse across the product line.
Collaboration with program leadership is essential as you develop and execute a thorough analysis plan, provide accurate time estimates, and support overall scheduling and planning. Managing prototyping and validation efforts, you will oversee the creation of proof-of-concept and engineering models. You will also be tasked with defining and reviewing test strategies—which encompass environmental, thermal, and EMC testing—to ensure that all documentation supports airworthiness certification. Finally, you will partner with the team to implement integrated tool suites that include Requirements Management (ALM), MBSE, PLM, and other analysis tools, ensuring a robust and innovative engineering process.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 12 years of related professional engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in STEM with 10 years of related professional engineering experience, OR a PhD in STEM with 8 years of related professional engineering experience.
Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOD Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with safety critical HW/SW development, preferably in the aerospace industry.
Successful history of implementing Ethernet, TSN, CANbus, Serial interfaces RS-232/485/422), PCIe, etc.
Product-specific experience with VxWorks, AMD UltraScale+ MPSoCs and Vivado
