Position: ICU/ Staff Nurse

Position Summary
The Staff Nurse / ICU Nurse is responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to patients in general wards and critical care units. The role includes assessing patient needs, planning and implementing nursing interventions, monitoring vital signs, managing critical conditions, and collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal outcomes. The nurse adheres to clinical protocols, infection control standards, and hospital policies at all times.
Key Responsibilities1. Patient Care
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in general wards and ICU as per clinical requirements.
- Conduct initial and ongoing assessment of patient conditions.
- Monitor vital signs, neurological status, hemodynamic parameters, and report any abnormalities promptly.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, and injections as prescribed.
- Assist in procedures such as catheterization, suctioning, wound dressing, NG tube insertion, etc.
- Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation.
2. ICU-Specific Responsibilities
- Manage critically ill patients requiring ventilators, infusion pumps, cardiac monitors, and other advanced equipment.
- Interpret ECGs, ABG reports, and respond to emergency changes.
- Assist in intubation, CPR, and code blue situations.
- Manage patients on invasive and non-invasive ventilation.
- Ensure proper functioning and maintenance of ICU equipment.
3. Patient Safety & Infection Control
- Follow infection prevention protocols, isolation precautions, and hand hygiene standards.
- Maintain aseptic techniques during all procedures.
- Ensure safe handling and disposal of biomedical waste.
4. Communication & Collaboration
- Coordinate with doctors, physiotherapists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals for patient care.
- Provide updates to patient families within hospital guidelines.
- Participate in rounds and communicate changes in patient condition.
5. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain nursing notes, intake-output charts, and ICU flow sheets.
- Record medication administration and procedures accurately.
- Report critical incidents or equipment malfunctions.
6. Emergency Response
- Respond promptly to emergencies including cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, shock, trauma, etc.
- Perform life-saving interventions and assist the medical team during emergencies.
7. Patient Education
- Educate patients and caregivers about treatment plans, medications, and post-discharge care.
Qualifications
- GNM / B.Sc Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc Nursing.
- Valid Nursing Council Registration (State/INC).
- ACLS / BLS certification preferred (mandatory for ICU).
- Minimum 0–2 years of experience for staff nurse roles; ICU experience preferred but not mandatory for trainees.
